My friend posted this on Facebook. Can anyone explain?

"Google index for December 11 shows United Way had established and posted a support fund for the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting. However, the Sandy Hook shooting DID NOT OCCUR until December 14. Can anyone explain????"

I saw a blog that was indexed 12/11/12 which had a story about Sandy Hook dated 12/21/12, of course the blog also had a bunch of content from previous entries.

The link directs to the website https://newtown.uwwesternct.org/

Is it possible that website was indexed on 12/11/12 without the donations page setup?

The Google date stamps aren't very accurate.

It must not be very accurate. Why have a time stamp at all when it is that much off? A date is a date. How hard is it to mess that up?

Dec 11, 2012 - United Way extends our most sincere condolences and prayers to all those families affected by the devastating events in Newtown/Sandy Hook, Connecticut.

You can notice here that is not only indexed 12/11/2012 by Google, the brief introduction of the actual article on the site recorded by Google also has a date of 12/11/2012.

.

Amazingly easy. UTC? EST? Is 12/21/12 12/21/2012 OR 2012/21/12. so many formats, timezones and cultures.

I'm not sure what library they may be using, but that stuff is not that hard with a timezone library which most, if not all, development environments have, whether built into the language (C,C++,C#,Java,Forth,Basic,etc) or built into the environment such as .Net, Java Beans, etc...

.net: DateTime today = DateTime.Now;

Sure, but google is going to be web scraping and parsing text. Going from various text data is often error prone, especially from such a wide variety of sources such as the web.

The Google date stamps aren't very accurate.

If that's the case, is there a way to prove exactly when this site came online? Maybe a cached archive log or a snapshot that's filed away somewhere through another search engine perhaps?
