While the Obama administration sets out to eviscerate the gun rights of American citizens in the aftermath of Sandy Hook, earlier this week it was announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded a company a contract worth over $45,000 dollars to provide the DHS with 200,000 more rounds of bullets.

This new purchase adds to the staggering figure of 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition already secured by the DHS over the last 9 months alone.

Just remember, during the Vietnam "conflict" the US armed forces were estimated to have spent approximately 100,000 rounds of small arms ammunition for each enemy casualty. I wouldn't worry too much about the dopes in TSA being much better than that. But they ARE driving up ammo prices!

They were in the jungle shooting at an enemy they often couldn't see. I don't know if you can trust those numbers anyhow. There was so much corruption in the supply chain, with endless big contracts for the arms contractors. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the "spent" ammo never made it to the front lines, if it ever existed at all.

Check out this interview. It will make you sick.

I didn't mean to disparage the soldiers. Just making a point that large quantities of ammunition and automatic weapons do not constitute a threat by themselves.

The goal of those ammunition purchases is, as is the case with most government contracts, to take wealth from the hands of the public and put it into the coffers of favored government contractors.

Mr X. explains the military industrial complex very well in the JFK movie:

Maybe they'll be shooting at closer range.

So, what exactly is the purchase history of these groups?

Well, I would like to see the training amounts used. When I was an officer, we trained using hollow points since they were what we would be using in an actual firefight. It's smart to practice what you carry... or at least use the same powder charge.

DHS must buy 100,000 silver bullets also because silver price has fallen from $34 to $30/ounce now.

Wow, now that would be something to stock up on.. it has two potential uses!

Meanwhile, at my local gun shop yesterday, not a single AR-15 magazine was to be found, nor a single 5.56 or .223 cartridge. Even the expensive match grade stuff was all gone.

Curiously enough, there was a lot of 7.62 FMJ, however. Didn't see any AK-47's in stock though.

What about 7.62X51 and .308?

Buy any ammo you can find, even in calibers you do not currently own... the enemy will always have some machines laying around that will require those calibers.

By the way, this explains the recent ammo shortages. .308 is tough to find now.

If you can find 762r , buy as much as possible.

Yep... I told people to buy a lot of .308 and all of their service calibers five years ago. I hope many listened....

Even 9mm is getting damn hard to find.

This is what I was afraid of. They won't go after guns, they won't go after high cap mags, they will just borrow money from China to buy up all the ammo for themselves. I'm surprised they didn't think of this sooner since they can just print an endless supply of money.

I'm sure the ammo manufacturers aren't complaining.

7.62 is useable in a gun chambered for .308, right? (kind of the opposite of 5.56 and .223).

7.62x51 is basically .308

7.62x39 is nothing like .308

I was at a gun shop in a neighboring town not too long ago and picked up some socks and a jacket and while I was there I window-shopped the gun department as I have been doing lately and I noticed they had a Savage chambered for .338 Lapua Magnum. Neat looking gun, but the price tag didn't look neat: $2,4xx.yy.

The most likely scenario is that the ammo is being purchased to be laundered into some overseas black op destabilization program, like supplying the Al Qaida (aka CIA) rebels in Syria.

If that is the case, then the rebels will be armed with ball ammunition, likely originating in Russia.

Ah, thanks for pointing out that the AK-47 takes the 39 rather than 51. Newbie here.

Depends... they are both very similar; however, the 7.62 NATO round is a little thicker, slightly longer, and doesn't have as much case capacity. Some rifles are dual chambered to shoot both rounds. I would check with the manufacturer though because some 7.62 rifles can shoot .308 (provided that you don't reload), but some .308s can't shoot too much 7.62 without having extractor issues. In a pinch, I am sure both rifles will shoot each other's rounds, but one mistake you do not want to make is trying to shoot a 7.62X39 in a 7.62X51 chamber!

Well, still out of 5.56/.223 and the pallet of 7.62 is almost completely gone now.

Anybody I run across carrying hollow point ammunition will be treated as a war criminal. I will definitely not be a non-combatant.

Anyone have any idea how many rounds they have in stockpile, how many purchases they've made and received & how many rounds each purchase consisted of, how many purchases they plan on making, etc?
