One [non-ISRA] gun guy on the front lines in the Land of Lincoln tells TTAG that the odds of the bills going through are 50 – 50. He advises gun owners both in and out of state to call Senate President Cullerton at 217 782 2000 and/or find another legislator to pester at ilga.gov.

“If gun owners around the country melt the phone lines in the next three days we can push this thing back . . . that would be a tremendous morale boost ahead of federal legislation.”

What "Illinois Lawmakers" seem to forget is that outside of Chicago this liberal bullcrap won't fly.

Try telling a farmer in Gilman he can't keep his great grandfathers historic rifle, a hunter in Effingham that he can no longer put food on his family's table or any private citizen who wants to protect their family that they can't anymore. The real Illinois will succeed, it has been suggested before but this time it might happen for real.

Indeed. They're awakening a sleeping giant.

If there is one demographic that you do not fuck with, that's gun owners. Gun owners are generally individualistic, resilient, assertive, and most importantly.... armed.

You can piss on these people, steal from these people, all day long... but take away their right to defend themselves... and they'll bite back.

Obviously you don't live in Illinois, or you wouldn't be so quick to give up the rights of its citizens to the hoardes.

Do you think these leftist scum care about your stats and "case studies" as you put it? Their entire ideology is built on emotion at the grassroots, and corruption at the very top. Trying to appeal to them with reason and facts NEVER works with these morons.

Will this be how you explain it to the husband and father as he is forced to watch his wife and pre-teen daughters being violently raped by a small group of thugs?
A small group of thugs that would have been easily dissuaded when the first thug hit the floor after being hit by multiple .45 rounds?
That the brutal rape was worth the sacrifice so that we could prevent future states from trying future bans?
There is no 'compromise.'

Why not just leave?

Anyone on these forums who lives in Illinois needs to follow this link:

http://www.uhaul.com/

Pack up your wealth. Pack up your smart kids. Pack up your guns. Pack up your businesses. Pack up your taxes. Don't stay and let them eventually get it all.

And leave fucking Illinois to the leechers and the criminals.

We can spend eternity trying to fight against places like Chicago. Or we can leave and let them rot in hell. Everyone knows it's the producers and the capitalists who manage to keep those places afloat. So leave. Dropping a link to my other thread to suggest how staying in these areas actually hurts us more than helps:

This. Cook County already runs the state, and the progs drew themselves a supermajority (http://reason.com/blog/2012/11/16/if-california-is-americas-greece-what-is) for 10 years. I have no doubt it will pass.

Is there any legitimate source reporting on this or is this just the typical Infowars/RPF alarmist thread?

AFAIK, the NRA has said they have the votes to block a 'may issue' carry law and that Illinois will at least be getting a 'shall issue' carry framework. Seems odd that they'd have enough pro-gun votes to block 'may issue' but not enough to block a complete ban...

Just got off the phone with my state reps and state senator. Lahood's aid was reading straight from a script and sounded tuckered out, so I'm guessing she at least has been getting quite a few calls on this. She said that it's first up to Cullerton if he even brings it to session today, if he did it would be shortly after 3pm. Lahood is on record saying he's going to vote against it, so that's good, but I can't believe the reaction I'm getting from the gun owners I know. I sent out a mass txt to every one of my contacts, and the gun owners are acting like it's too absurd to pass. That's exactly why I'm so worried about it, it's just absurd enough to pass, ya know?

Wow, from the comment section:

Wow, it’s amazing how stupid some people actually are…you know who is a traitor, someone who keeps America from doing the best it can for their own self-interest.

I bet you all have higher degrees and exceed in your daily tasks of work and parenting. Let me guess, you are also economists who know exactly that raising taxes on wealthy people is a job killing tactic. Or you are a nobel prize winning scientist who disproved evolution and global climate change.

Fact of the matter is that some guns are only dangerous to the citizens, because the citizens are mostly self-obsessed morons. The average person isn’t intelligent, isn’t a genius, and isn’t safe behind the wheel, let alone behind a trigger.

Save yourself and your kids by keeping guns out of crazy, dangerous and dumb people’s hands.

Just like your typical socialist guttersnipe who likes to redefine the meaning of words, e.g. medical care is a "right", "keeping America from doing the best it can for their own self-interest" = traitor, etc.

By Jim Hagerty
The Rockford Record

The Illinois Senate could have significant bills on its agenda this week, as lawmakers returned to Springfield Wednesday, Jan. 2...

While state legislators across the country are torn on certain gun control measures, most are pushing hard for assault weapon bans. The matter was brought to the fore in Illinois again after more than two dozen people, were gunned down in a Newtown, Conn., elementary school last month. Twenty victims were children. All were shot and killed with a semi-automatic, military style rifle obtained legally by the shooter’s mother.

No proof at all that "most" are pushing for this, more liberal journalism for you.

There are two different bills,

First is HB1263 that bans assault rifles, assault handguns, assault black barreled objects, assault menacing looking devices, assault sporks, and any weapon or kitchen utensil that also comes in an "assault" variation:

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Illinois-gun-ban-bill-1263.pdf

Then there's HB0815 which apparently requires you to register magazines (presumably "assault magazines", I havent read this one yet):

Its one of the best examples to these types. They clearly know nothing about what they are doing. They're in the business of taking liberty, and they could care less whether they know the slightest bit about what they are legislating.

I'm sure there's quite a few husbands in IL that are notifying their wives of a pending "life change" that may result if either of these bills passes. Whether that be taking up arms and marching out, or taking arms and marching in. Either bill will be unenforceable... In fact, during committee they had an ISP representative to offer support of HB815. He didnt have a clue about how they'd enforce, and even suggested that they'd mail out an affidavit, or use receipts as proof of lawful ownership! It doesnt get any more ridiculous than that. They simply have NO plan, other than to take the guns away. Logistics are something that they can figure out later.

Well Illinois, it looks like it has been left to you. You are our hope now. If they can make this fly in your state, then it is only a matter of time before they can push it on the rest of us. You must not allow this to pass.

Not as bad, but please don't forget us!

The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Dan Kotowski, D-Park Ridge, said the concerns were overstated.

“If you are a law-abiding gun owner, I don’t know what you have to fear here,” Kotowski said.

Oh barf. Illinois has been screwed for years. If Illinois is anyone's hope, they should have given up years ago or picked a different hope.

(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or
partially or completely encircles the barrel, and
that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with
the non-trigger hand without being burned;

I guess they'll have to ban welding gloves immediately after.

I think you'd have to actually duct tape that welding glove on before they could call it a crime.

Shell bills. The leadership puts in a certain number every year knowing they are available to be gutted and used for political expediency.

How does this relate to the appeals court decision that concealed carry must be allowed and implemented? You'll be able to carry a muzzle loading, flint lock pistol?

It would pretty much rule out carrying any handgun that would require a clip basically, so revolvers would be about it. The worst part about this is, it makes criminals of the majority of the state, with a sweep of a pen no less! I've already told my girl and our kids, we're moving to IA just as soon as school is out this year.

When they talk about barrel shrouds, I think they are visualizing those scary looking spiky things, weaver/picatinny rails over the forearm/barrel. People, put covers on your rails :)

If I were worried about touching something hot, it would be duct taped to my hand/wrist. Banning them for non-government use must be the only answer. :D

Definitely get out of that shithole state.

And which handgun requires a clip? :)
