American Majority Action spokesman Ron Meyer told Breitbart News late Tuesday that enough House Republicans have banded together in an effort to unseat House Speaker John Boehner from his position--they just need a leader to take up the mantle.

“At least 20 House Republican members have gotten together, discussed this and want to unseat Speaker Boehner--and are willing to do what it takes to do it,” Meyer said. “That’s more than enough to get the job done, but the one problem these guys face is they need a leader to coalesce behind.”

Meyer said the conservatives have considered House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) to take the helm after Boehner is knocked out. His opposition from the right to the Senate fiscal cliff deal that Vice President Joe Biden cut with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is a sign Cantor may try for the job.

AMA is hardly the only conservative entity aware of the rekindled effort afoot to unseat Boehner. Another conservative with inside knowledge of the effort told Breitbart News that the movement has "new focus and juice," and if enough members go to Boehner telling him they won’t support his re-election, that Americans should “watch for him to resign gracefully.”

The vote for Boehner’s re-election as Speaker happens on Thursday, two days after Boehner’s decision to support the Senate "fiscal cliff" deal Vice President Joe Biden cut with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on New Year’s Eve.

Amash should stand as a "stalking horse" to deny Boehner the votes and force him to resign. Then they can find someone else.

Cantor would be terrible as he has been in lockstep with Boehner all the way.

Gohmert is another possible "stalking horse" as he is a rebel who is in a safe district in Texas and runs with no opposition so nothing to lose

I know he's not all that great on many liberty issues (although I think he's improving), but Jim Jordan is a very solid fiscal conservative who can probably build enough of a coalition to defeat Boehner.

This is how it works, right? They decide ahead of time that when they pass this horrific legislation, they will make the House speaker the sacrificial lamb. This apparently will quell the brainless GOP masses. Cantor, who's always been in charge, must be having a real laugh.

Cantor is a sneaky bastard but if properly directed can be useful. Between him and Boehner, I'd chose Cantor, especially when you consider that Zero cannot stand him. Cantor possesses the uncanny ability to get under Obama's skin which is valuable attribute IMHO.

Stockman is already a No and I'd imagine there's a dozen others.

They need 17 and someone to stand as a "stalking horse" and to force a second ballot by which point Boehner will have to resign.

House Speaker John Boehner is giving some ground on Sandy funding and timing a vote.

The House will now hold a vote Friday on $9 billion in Sandy recovery funds, followed by another vote on $51 billion on Jan. 15th.

Jesus, they still want 60 billion. Ridiculous.

Boehner just bought more votes for himself tomorrow.

This is sickening.

Call GOPers now and get him removed

Grimm may vote against Boehner, because of the Sandy bill. In this case the ends justify the means.

Grimm won't vote against him, he's got his pork now with a promise of a vote on 60 billion Sandy bill which all the Democrats and 50 sellout Republicans will happily vote for.

Yeah, exactly so controlling what comes to the floor is important otherwise Congress is just going to vote for every big spending item, which is what Sandy pork bill is. 60 billion unfunded is just crazy and they want it badly.

Tea Partiers need to rise up NOW and stop this madness.

Jim Jordan or Tom Price would both be good options. Not Cantor or Ryan though, both are establishment and RINO.

so basically they knew this would happen. Since the RNC Beohner has been throwing out conservatives from commities and striking this deal so Cantor can oppose him one time at the end and now he can swoop in and take over being an establishment hack in his place. I pray they get one of our guys in there instead but i won't be holding my breath

I kind of wondered about it being orchestrated by the establishment too. They talk Bohner into taking the hit from the fiscal cliff deal. Then they replace him with Cantor, helping erase the GOP fingerprints from the deal.

What a mess. Only the insiders and us know the replacement will be worse.

Primary Bohner!
