This is not intended to be a thread about what we think of sex offenders, but of adding this to the police arsenal because I can't imagine its use won't be expanded. You want parole? You want to drive....?

Sex offenders are folks who pee off the side of a boat just as often as they're rapists or pedophiles..

Government is going to use whatever technology is available to make their job easier, every time.

That said, as a nation we're broke!

Which country is funding this latest foray into monitoring the citizens?

What about the different apps used in conjunction with facial recognition software, like those for body language, sweaty palms, elevated respiration etc.. This gets closer and closer to pre-crime extermination every day...

Next computer controlled lasers that can vaporize your cerebral cortex because the computer thought you looked "stressed"...

This blows. I knew it was just a matter of time, but soon enough all those cameras that you see at intersections and throughout town will be tracking us via face recognition (if they aren't already). I thought we had a few more years before they publicly unveiled such a travesty, but I was foolish to think that. The machine always grows at an accelerating pace. As usual, the control grid tightens (or should I say expands) under the guise of protecting the children.

They won't stop until every American is monitored 24/7. For our "safety." This is being sold as a control of sex offenders. It is really about the control of all of us.

But anyway, that is Step#1 of the rebellion imo

Iowa? - srsly Iowa???

The Iowa Department of Public Safety has secured $110,000 in federal funds that will be used to implement a state-wide face recognition program that will start with tracking convicted sex criminals.

the agency can start digitizing around 10,000 images

are they still using Polaroids or 35mm film?

will be able to comb through security camera images and even Facebook photos in order to pick out people from a crowd and cross-reference them with a list of over 5,600 registered sex offenders

This sounds more like finding out who you associate with. and ugh! - Facebook again :(

10,000 images in the DB, but only 5,600 sex offenders. So who are teh other 4,400 images?

population of Iowa = 3,064,309 - so one out of every 540 people in IA is a sex offender. That's a LOT of farmers taking a leak by their tractor!

And rolled out at a cost of $53.57 per sex offender! - yeah! tax dollars at work! this is sooo worth it, don't ya think?

But the real surprise comes at the end of the 30-second spot when it reveals which candidate the group supports: not Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, but the Libertarian nominee Dan Cox.

I'm guessing this isn't the one you are thinking of?
