NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - In the wake of the Newtown massacre, the NYPD is examining ways to search the internet for potential “deranged” gunmen.

WCBS 880′s Marla Diamond On The Story

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that their searches would be similar to those being used to spot terrorist chatter online.

“And what we’re talking about is publicly available websites, chatrooms, that sort of thing,” Kelly said, adding that algorithms could be used. That will enable us to use, perhaps, commonly used terms that are used by people engaged in this sort of activity,” he said.

“The techniques would include cyber-searches of language that mass-casualty shooters have used in e-mails and Internet postings,” Kelly said.

Kelly said intelligence is most helpful in these cases since shooters can cause multiple deaths in seconds regardless of how deft the police response.

Yup.

Told you so.

More than gun rights will be lost, as usual.

And not a fuck will be given, outside a few fringe refuseniks.

That's us.

And as people start getting locked up for something they may have said, the media will tell everybody how wonderful the police are for doing so.

Abner Louima (b. 1966 in Thomassin, Haiti) is a Haitian who was assaulted, brutalized and forcibly sodomized with the handle of a bathroom plunger by New York City police officers after being arrested outside a Brooklyn nightclub in 1997.

Can you search online for deranged NYC cops?

I was just going to post that.

Yeah, they cops have been crawling all over FarceBook for years now, like you said, it's easy, people vomit up all sorts of dirt and indict themselves all day long, under their own name and photos, all nicely linked together.

Why not just put together a daily dossier on yourself and hand in it the cops every day?

I've got a videorecording of some WWII-era anti-Japanese propaganda. It's fun listening to them laugh at the Japanese Thought Police. Very refreshing, especially in the light of the modern insanity. Thought Police are as American as apple pie, these days.

Of course not. The nation was founded on civilian privacy and governmental transparency. This, too, has now been turned upside-down.

Now they call it national security when what they really mean is government security. If the mundain knew what the government was doing, the government wouldn't feel very secure. In fact, they would probably be in a lot of trouble.

Just wait until little Johnny or Susie gets on grandma's computer and uses some language that gets flagged. Grandma gets her door kicked in during an early morning raid and gets shot.

Wait.... Things like that are already happening.

You'd think that when Johnny or Susie, born in 1987, dealt drugs out of grandma's house, and the cops seized the house because it was obviously paid for with Johnny's drug profits (even though the mortgage was paid off in 1972), that would have brought out the angry mobs. But, no...

AGAIN

this seems just like Enemies Foreign and Domestic by Bracken.

Only in there the feds search for potential domestic terrorists (i.e. gun owners who don't turn in their ARs after mass confiscation)

I remember being propagandized in school about those dirty, godless commies in East Germany and Russia, with their thought police and KGB (Committee for State Security) and surveillance everywhere, and how we, in the Land Of The Free were oh so superior, and when I got a little older and started realizing where all this was going, being mocked and laughed at about how "that could never happen here".

God, in one lifetime...
