Ron Paul Digital Billboard Fund Drive
The negotiated price to lease this digital billboard
is $3,000 a month.
Our goal is to raise the money by Dec 9th, 2007.
We have secured a contract hold on this billboard.
Once we have a $1,000 for the deposit,
the work can begin.
The billboard company needs about a week to setup.
Site of Billboard is off of I-380
south of HWY 30 Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Size is 14x48 and double sided and
ads run in 8 second intervals 45 times an hour.
Up to 8 different designs can be displayed on both sides.
Commuter circulation is roughly 50,000 daily non-seasonal.
The traffic demographic consists of daily commuters,
college students and Interstate travelers from surrounding states.

Time is of the essence, lets get this up by December 9th!

Could you post what this billboard is going to look like? This would get more attention, both helpful comments and money.

This is a good spot. There's also a really good digital billboard in town in Cedar Rapids (Collins Rd. I believe).

Let's get this going. If we can pony up $200K+ to show up Huck, we can get $3K for this.

Hey I have a connection for digital billboards that may possibly be cheaper and he may be able to get that same billboard for cheaper. send me a PM and i can email you his info.

The worst he can say is "I can't get that billboard"

so it's worth a shot

It's a great location. All the folks coming from Cedar Rapids (2nd largest city in Iowa) going to the "good" mall in Coralville (next to Iowa City, home of Univ. of Iowa) for Christmas shopping will pass by this billboard.

Definitely a project we should get behind. This is a great location and the price seems very reasonable. Somebody needs to put together a design for the billboard. I have no idea how to do it, but the ideas they have on the site are not that great.

Need to emphasize: End the war, stop illegal immigration, reduce taxes. And something about the Jan.3 caucuses.

I am promoting this around and have one person interested to donate. I contacted the website and got this reply:

"....So basically our ad will run in 8 second intervals 45 times per hour and 32,400 a month.
I think there are a total of 9 ads that can run, also the digital billboard runs ads in both directions.
Let me know if there is anything else you are curious about and I will do my best to find the info.

Thanks for your support!

50,000 persons a day pass this, for 24 days before our primary. It seems low dollars and high impact to me.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it. I wish it was a permanent billboard instead of one that rotates a bunch of different ads, but this is still a very prime location. Lots of commuters and just a generally busy spot.

Mastiff

Seems like this is dying. Maybe we need to show the specific ads that will be up. I'd also like to know what happens to the donations if we don't make $3k.

I think theres too much info on there for someone who is driving by. I think 3 bullet points emphasizing the war, illegal immigration, and the economy. And then something about registering and attending the caucus.

I don't know about that "obviously not the right choice" part. That first sign with "attend the Jan. 3 caucuses" would be good.

I think the donations would go faster if we knew exactly what the design was going to be. I mailed you a suggestion, but I think it, like all the others, is the wrong aspect ratio for the billboard, which is wide and skinny.

If you don't make the $3K, do you return the money or give it to the campaign?

I will be finalizing designs this week and begin working with the billboard graphics team. I have some designs on the .com site and I have received some submissions that will be used as well. As far as the Digital Billboard goes, we chose this due to market research showing that more drivers pay attention to the brightly lit digital billboards than the old traditional style. Also with it being digital it will show up better at night and we have up to 8 different ads we can run. This allow us to cover several themes to have maximum effect on all demographics. I was able to get the Digital Billboard knocked down to $3,000 from $3,500 so this is a great deal. Also the location of the billboard is in a location traveled heavily by voters and college educated drivers. We WILL raise the money for the billboard, we have raised half of our goal in a week and it's growing.
We will have some exciting news to come so stay tuned!

That's pretty dangerous, sarcasm doesn't process well in the few milliseconds someone absorbs a billboard before their eyes scan away - and his face and "OBVIOUSLY NOT THE RIGHT CHOICE" are what you come away with ;(. At least in number two you have to read your way down to it, but still probably could do without.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I like the design a lot, but the sarcasm just doesn't work. Just change that one line IMO.

The picture I show on the website is a screen capture of a live web cam stream. I live in Austin so I can't get a picture of the billboard now. When we get the billboard up I will get pictures and live shots of the billboard. I also hope to get video footage so I can put together a short clip for youtube. I will put out a call to Cedar Rapids Ron Paul supporters to help me with this. I can't wait!

I'm excited to announce that with generous donations and support we have reached our fund raising goal for Iowa in a little over a week. I'm currently working with the graphics team finalizing the designs, sketches and wording of the billboard. Concurrently I'm searching for locations in New Hampshire that will reach the most voting demographic. We will update the website when I have final designs and pictures of the billboard. Visit our website to stay informed.

The Collins Road billboard is a slightly better location. Highway 30 is used by a lot of farmers who like ethanol subsides. I have no idea on pricing, and either way a ton of Iowa traffic goes by both.

Its gonna be on I-380, so I think it will get a lot more traffic then Collins Rd. All the commuters, and Coral Ridge shoppers during the holiday season. Having another one on Collins Rd. would not be a bad idea. It might be a little more expensive considering the one on I-380 is on a digital board that rotates on a few ads.

I think for Iowa, in accordance with the latest polls, we need to emphasize the war and illegal immigration.

Eric21ND
11-29-2007, 08:06 AM
yes we need to hit the immigration issue much harder than we have been.

ALL the other candidates have very weak records on illegal immigration and can hammered on the issue, while at the sametime Paul has the best answer to it.

something like

"protect our troops"

"save our economy"

"secure our borders"

"secure our borders"

Yes! Yes! Yes!. "Peace, Prosperity, Freedom" seems just like a politician tag line... from that I can't even tell if he is republican or democrat.

"Protect the troops, save the dollar, secure the border" would speak to important issues... but then again I guess it should be targetting issues people in the area care about. What are the 2 or 3 most important issues to Iowa republicans?

We are attempting to get funds for a digital in Knoxville, TN as well. It is only $1700 / month though. One thing to keep in mind about these displays is that the message can be changed via the web, so one can have several promotions to use at different times of the day, targeting different driver demographics. Also, they are exclusive. Once an advertisment (including election displays) are obtained, no other ones are accepted on that board. Don't let the competition get them first!!

"End the War in Iraq" " Vote Jan. 3"

We drove past a week ago or so and didn't see the Ron Paul display. There are two electronic boards right next to each other, so we were scanning both of them as we drove past.

It's great that we got this up, but I wonder in the future if you might consider cheaper/smaller in town billboards. The highway ones are easy to miss, especially since you only get 1/5th (or whatever) of the time. There are in town ones that are only $750 a month, and though fewer people go past, you just can't miss them. And you could get 3-4 for the same money. Just a thought.

There were several reasons why we chose this format and location for the billboard. For example the prices for the traditional billboard you listed didn't include the vinyl and for that price the driver circulation and the billboard size is smaller. Also the area is a heavily traveled location with Interstate connections to 3 states. The voter demographic is large due to the size of college educated travelers on the highway. The digital display is bi-directional and attracts more attention than the traditional ones, especially at night. Finally, with this format we have the ability to run 8 different ads to target different voting segments. I have a live link to the webcam for the billboard and I see both our designs run at a good rate.
The billboard we just secured in New Hampshire is a traditional style and it is located downtown in a great location next to hotels and media/campaign headquaters. I knew of a group that was putting up several traditional billboards in Des Moise, so I knew we had the state covered pretty well.
In South Carolina we are looking at traditional and a digital location that has super traffic circulation. Thanks for your suggestions and keep them coming.

PS If you live close to the billboard and could help us with photos of it please email me.
