WTF drone woke me up this morning, I didn't even know these were being tested in NJ until I heard it overhead.

There's always some idiot yelling the same thing over and over

This is why I didn't want NDAA to pass (among the obvious reasons) with the military now being able to fly shit in civilian airspace, they can test and fly drones all they want in military airspace but I don't want to hear those loud engines annoying the shit out of me 24/7 flying over our skies.

How would something that loud and big be beneficial over a foreign country? Especially one with the capability to shoot it down? Could it be for more domestic use?

Wasn't that design proven to be dangerous?

I believe that was because sanctions prevented Germany from getting helium, forcing them to use the more dangerous hydrogen.

Na... that old thing used hydrogen... they are wasting helium to keep this one up.

Im telling you..everyday I become more entrenched in my belief in my right to exists as a free sovereign man and everyday the government increasingly infringes on that belief. Soon enough our paths will cross..

That was a rigid airframe dirigible with hydrogen "cells" filled for lift, covered in lightweight silk and cotton that was treated with extremely flammable, aluminum infused lacquer "dope" for sealing and weatherproofing.

Essentially, the whole thing was a flying bomb waiting to go off.

A blimp is basically an inert helium filled balloon.

Two very different animals.

There aren't any drone planes flying over Mesa, AZ either.

That was my first thought too, but then I realised it probably can fly at an extremely high altitude. Making it difficult to shoot down. Although they may not fly it that high in the US if they don't fear it being attacked.

I think a lot of these military drones fly at altitudes too high for civilian guns to reach, and the ones that don't are probably going to be so small that people will have a very difficult time even knowing they are there.

My guess is that the two best ways to deal with them would be by hacking the control system or by attacking them with your own drone.

My understanding is that this drone crashed didn't it? Seems to me it was one of the examples (the other being the Romney blimp crashing or not being able to take off) why they should leave blimps to us...

No wonder party stores had a shortage earlier this year. Not worth it.

Here is the thread I was looking for:

Army’s Giant Spy Blimp Plan for Afghanistan Set Adrift http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?393429-Army%92s-Giant-Spy-Blimp-Plan-for-Afghanistan-Set-Adrift&highlight=blimp+afghanistan

Maybe it just drifted over Orenbus's house. Maybe the Army would be grateful for telephone calls letting them know where it wandered off to.

Six of the men killed in the wreck of the Akron had survived the crash of USS Shenandoah in 1925.

Akron Executive Officer Herbert V. Wiley was in command of USS Macon when the Macon crashed at sea north of San Francisco on February 12, 1935.

I'm positive this is the reason for the looming "assault weapon" ban.

Its effective in its own way... you make big brother as obvious and loud as possible so that the mundanes know that they are being watched. They want you to see and hear those things.

An old Air Force buddy of mine is now a contractor working on a variant of this blimp in Afghanistan. He has spent the past two years there, and has told me that the local Commanders regard these drone blimps as quite possibly the best protection for their troops that they can get. Apparently they provide much better surveillance of the enemy, and "insurgent" forces will typically run at the sight of them. He claims that countless planned attacks/ambushes/IEDs have been foiled by surveilling the area with these blimps.

Right. The apperance is enough. Reputation is cheaper than actually buying a shitload of blimps. Government workers are lazy.
