I am SHOCKED...

That the dash cam was "working."

These cops must truly believe they did nothing wrong... or that dash cam would have never seen the light of dayExcellent point. What were they thinking?

My only guess is that they figured these two women would just go along with it and not assert their rights, even after the fact.

I mean the female cop specifically said she wanted to do it in front of the camera which I guess is SOP for liability reasons.

Update to the OP story. It seems that her punishment so far is a paid vacation for the holidays:

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - A Texas State Trooper who was thrust into the spotlight Tuesday after dash camera video showing her giving body cavity searches to two women became public has been suspended.

Trooper Kelly Helleson was suspended Wednesday, the day after the two women she searched as part of a traffic stop earlier this year sued her and another trooper for what they called a violation of their privacy.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, the state organization who State Troopers work for, say Helleson was put on paid suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident and the lawsuit.

Last July the dashcam video of the cavity searches performed by Helleson on Angel Dobbs and her niece Ashley Dobbs went viral. The two women had been pulled over on the George Bush Turnpike when Helleson was called in to assist trooper David Farrell, who claimed he smelled marijuana in the car the women were traveling in. The search found nothing incriminating on either of the Dobbs women.
The body searches were captured on video by Farrell’s dashboard camera.

The female Texas trooper who performed a roadside cavity search on two Irving women will be terminated according to the Department of Public Safety.
The two women from Irving are suing Trooper David Farrell, Trooper Kelley Helleson and the director of the Department of Public Safety for what they call an unconstitutional search without probable cause.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says agency director Steve McCraw has made a preliminary determination to terminate Trooper Kelly Helleson. Vinger, in a statement Wednesday, said Helleson will have the opportunity to meet with McCraw before her firing is final.

A Texas state trooper charged with sexually assaulting two women during a traffic stop was providing them with "customer service," says Dale Roberts, the executive director of the Columbia Police Officers Association (CPOA). The lodge is a part of the Fraternal Order of Police, one of the country's largest police unions.

"It's called Customer Service!" Roberts wrote in a March 27 Facebook post about the indictment of Texas State Trooper Kelly Helleson. "We just did it so they wouldn't have to make the trip all the way down to the station," he added. A screenshot of Roberts' post was taken by Keep Columbia Free, a civil liberties blog run by Mark Flakne.

While Dale Roberts is not a police officer, his roles as head of the Columbia chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police and a professor of constitutional law at the University of Missouri, makes him a leader in the Missouri law enforcement community. It's a position he doesn't seem to handle all that well.
