What's he playing at? Apparently Mitch McConnell is pushing Rand Paul's idea of a two bill solution to the 'fiscal cliff', one bill to be passed extending all Bush tax cuts and one bill already passed by Dem controlled Senate that extends the tax cuts for those earning under $250,000 which Republicans in the House can vote 'present' on allowing it to pass with Democrat votes only.

Boehner is not keen and is so far resisting the idea. Time is running out and Boehner is still "negotiating" with the president thinking he can get some deal on limiting deductions and closing loopholes which so far has proven to be elusive.

If tax cuts go up for everyone on Jan 1st, 65% of voters will blame the GOP and the Democrats will seize the initiative and may win the House in 2014 on the back of it.

Another reason why Boehner is a miserable failure as Speaker. You can't negotiate with the president who is demanding 1.6 trillion in new revenue and even if you do get a deal it damages the GOP brand to be voting for it.

Now he's offering to raise rates on those making over $1m but the president is demanding a rise in the debt limit and no cuts to entitlements.

You cannot negotiate with the president, just pass the tax cuts with Dem votes and go home and leave it up to Obama whether he signs it or not.
