What is going on? I think the empire (maybe the world) is slowly devolving...

Why the distractions? I don't know why...

Maybe it's supposed to "help", by focusing on diverse issues (or horror) as
we alternate between doses of bread and circus.

But is it directed or just random?

School shootings usually receive way too much publicity. It's a rare sick act,
but it's almost sicker for the MSM to give it so much news coverage because
we don't want any OTHER crazy (copy cat) monsters flipping out as a result.

Before they even think about another rule or law, maybe the crumbling empire
needs some full-light-of-day self-examination. Is our society in a death spiral?

Does this represent a significant trend? Is it a rare fluke; (only) ONE person's brain
malfunctioned out of 333,000,000 people? If it's a trend, is it due to exposure to
violence and/or ideas in movies and news, bad economy, job loss, bad relationships,
horrid mandatory public education, societal pressures (or lack thereof),
pharmaceutical drugs, bad diet, bad engineered food or some poison in our water?

Could it be triggered by psychopaths that run this country who make promises to get,
elected and then lie, cheat and conjure up various enemies, starting wars against
nations, people and plants? Have people been taught to seek the impossible,
only to be devastated later when they realize we've all gotten hosed in process?

Maybe it's a combination of factors where these are just the first symptoms of
an ultimate breakdown of our society as this empire has already run its course and
is about to finally collapse into widespread, crazy civil unrest featuring worthless money.

Maybe nothing is going on at all ...and we should all be out shopping.

Regarding the school shooting and those slick talking heads that are sure to follow:
IMO, gun control laws are not the answer. Schools should arm (and train) all willing
teachers/staff (and take down any stupid "gun free zone" invitation signs).

All government needs to get smaller.

The world is flinging itself apart at the seams. Division, enmity, polarization around every possible axis. Hatefulness is the new normal, and it's boiling up into high pressure from every possible direction. You leave a pressure cooker on the burner, and it will eventually explode. Vain and self-interested men have undertaken to magnify these divisions as a means to power, and the effects have created a self-perpetuating cycle that can only end in disaster.

Until and unless (although unlikely) we manage to restore a moral foundation to the United States...by which I mean instilling the NAP or restoring the Golden Rule...this will only get worse and worse. These are only the distant rumblings of an oncoming storm. Buckle up ladies and gentlemen, it's going to get ugly.
