I have received a response from Speaker Boehner concerning the secret scorecard used to target certain fiscally responsible members of the Budget and Financial Services committees.

The Speaker did not dispute the existence of a scorecard and he did not deny that it was used to justify the Representatives’ removals.

I recently was told that I received a "0" on the Republican leadership’s scorecard. Given my work with Democrats and Republicans on serious proposals to balance the budget, it is certain that the scorecard awarded points for supporting bigger deficits and more debt.

Americans deserve to know the priorities of the current House leadership team. As fellow House Republicans, we deserve to know how we’re being judged when we vote.

I’m proud of my fight for a balanced budget. Our leaders should be proud of the positions they take.

Mr. Speaker, show us the scorecard.

What's confusing though is the 2nd paragraph of Boehner's letter does deny the existence of a scorecard. Am I missing something?

Maybe it was a different conversation? Different letter? But you're right - this letter says 'no scorecard' and doesn't mention he got a '0' on it.. I'm sure we haven't heard the last.

Yes. You're missing something.

Huelskamp: Boehner Letter Admits Secret Purge List (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/11/Huelskamp-Boehner-admits-secret-scorecard-used-in-conservative-purge)

“As has been made clear, there is no scorecard or any other single criteria used to determine committee assignments,” Boehner wrote with a caveat. “The Steering Committee is a deliberative body that reviews all appropriate information. Any member of the Committee may present information. No appointment or decision is made without the assent of a majority of the Steering Committee Members.”

The wording here is very specific, says Huelskamp: no scorecard or any other single criteria was used. In other words, a scorecard could have been used, among other criteria. In a statement, Huelskamp said Boehner’s carefully-worded letter is an admission that such a scorecard was used.

“With this letter, Speaker Boehner has confirmed a secret scorecard was used to punish conservative Republican Congressmen,” Huelskamp said. “Back in his Pledge to America, then-Minority Leader Boehner decried the fact that ‘most important decisions are made behind closed doors, where a flurry of backroom deals has supplanted the will of the people.’ This decision by GOP leadership, in a closed-door backroom session, confirms the worst fears of the American people: that promises of transparency were simply an election-year Republican ploy.”

“Mr. Speaker, the American people are disappointed. Mr. Speaker, the American people deserve to know,” Huelskamp added. “The American people demand to see your secret scorecard.”
