Great job numbers, Obama!

Who do they tax when everybody works for the government?

The New Government Class

By Paul Kengor on 12.10.12

The latest unemployment figures are depressing, but not for the usual reasons. They provide further confirmation of Barack Obama's fundamental transformation of America, and specifically through his creation of a growing government class.

The numbers show a massive increase in government jobs created over the last five months -- 621,000, to be exact, dwarfing private-sector job growth. Those new government jobs account for a staggering 73% of overall job growth. In all, it means that 20.6 million citizens now work for government, out of 143 million people employed in America -- or one in seven Americans.

This is exactly what Barack Obama and modern "progressives"/liberals want.

Indeed, the vision and policies and programs of progressives/liberals are rapidly generating a new government class that relies on government for its livelihood. The current such class -- the one that re-elected Barack Obama -- is comprised of federal workers; of state, county, and municipal workers; of employees in public-sector unions; of Americans collecting food stamps, welfare, and unemployment benefits; of those looking to government for their healthcare; and still more. They don't all vote Democrat, but many of them do.

That just means it will be harder to downsize the government.. because the POTUS would be labeled as a job destroyer. Imagine downsizing government and laying off 700k+ government employees. It won't go well in the public eyes.

Not to mention the fact that whoever tries to downsize these government jobs will lose all political support and people will abandon them faster than an AIDS victim in the eighties.

Pretty much. The answer is obviously to get as many people employed by the federal government as possible, that way, unemployment will go down.

There are already enough voters sucking on the federal tit to constitute a major voting block...

You mean that if we all pass a handful of dollars around, that by itself doesn't count as an "economy"? Somebody better tell Obama!

maybe we should, in addition to trying to get local/state level official positions in government, get those new government jobs too. If they are going to be available, we might as well put liberty individuals in.

Maybe one day, a DHS agent didnt pull the trigger and it saves your life because the DHS agent was for liberty and didnt want to follow orders.

Could it be all of those new jobs are people who will be part of a government think tank who are trying to figure out how to cut spending?

What a foolish idea. We need to hire some ex-Congressmen and Senators, pay them a consulting fee, and then they'll create a report on how we should cut spending. Why would we use people we already have when we can bring in even more people? All of these Congressmen and Senators, of course, were deficit hawks during their time in Congress.

Well, I just figured that's how big government would try to solve the problem of too much government.
