Bullshit, that is all this is.

If the problem is revenue, then raise the gas tax, that would equate to less people driving, and less fuel effcient cars on the road.

No, this is about getting your vehicle under 24/7 surveillance and logging every move you make with it.

And not a fuck will be given.

Nothing good that comes along that government can't fuck up.

State mulls pay-by-mile gas tax in response to fuel-efficient cars

SEATTLE -- Cars are becoming more and more fuel-efficient, and you would think that's a good thing.

But Washington state is actually losing money because of it and as a result, the state is now considering a "pay-by-mile" tax.

The state predicts gas tax collected today won't add up to enough cash to pay for future road projects.

Drivers of fuel-efficient cars are spending less at the pump, which means they are paying less in gas tax while driving the same amount of miles. So the state is a considering a pay-by- mile tax to even the playing field since as it stands now, drivers of gas guzzlers pay more in taxes per mile than drivers of fuel-efficient cars.

"In the future, as vehicles get more and more efficient, that puts a strain on our ability to maintain and operate our transportation system," said Jeff Doyle of the Washington state Department of Transportation.

A state-sponsored study released this week says a pay-per-mile tax could make up the shortfall, but the study did not lay out how it would work.

Such a tax could be implemented through yearly odometer checks using tolling devices that were tested during a study four years ago, or through a system similar to the existing Good to Go pass.

The state Legislature will be asked to spend several million dollars on another study to find a recommended method.

And Washington state is not alone; 20 states, including Oregon, are considering similar measures.

"This is nothing on the horizon. It's not going to solve our current transportation funding issues, but we need to be prepared for the future," Doyle said.

There is already a tax rate being discussed -- 1.5 cents per mile.

By 2025, the federal government will require new cars to average 54.5 miles per gallon.

Count on it like it is a done deal. Driving, after all, is a privilege. A privilege you gotta pay for.

And they will track you through your EZ-PASS, GPS and OnStar.License plate readers/scanners and the OBD I and II (internal vehicle on board diagnostics) No secrets, the NTSB, lobbied by the Insurance companies, Police State(gov agencies), and Tyrant orgs want to design a new "Black Box" to record everything on your vehicles.

It's supposedly to be use for crashes, but we all know now, it will be used to TRACK YOU & TAX YOU on all driving events.

Where I live , when gas was $4.11 , around 75 cents of that was tax , three taxes , Fed tax , state tax , sales tax on those two taxes. Most places are worse. I think about a quarter of the price is enough effing tax. With the new taxes coming Jan 1 , Obamacare taxes , fees , fines , raising the gas tax should just about blow the economy out from an expected 6 month minimum recession starting Jan 1 , to a permanent one .These people are economic terrorists.

I thought they wanted people to drive fuel efficient cars. Where is the incentive to do that if they will make you pay the same as if you had a gas guzzler?

Something similar happened here in Charlotte with the water bills. We had a drought a few years ago, and the city asked people to conserve. The citizens did ... followed by the city water company reporting it was not collecting enough revenue to pay for the infrastructure. So, rates went up.

Will they do it by odometer readings?

Which is the real reason why "conservation" of certain resources is pushed so much. It creates an artificial scarcity drives up their costs. All of the benefits of prohibition to the state, conservation style.
