California State University, San Bernardino police have shot and killed a student during a fight in an off-campus dorm.
San Bernardino police Lt. Paul Williams tells KABC-TV that the campus police officers went to the dorm Saturday evening after receiving reports of a disturbance.
He said that when the officers confronted the male student in the dorm's hallway, a fight erupted and that the officers fired their weapons when they feared for their safety.
Williams said one officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The San Bernardino Police department was investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting.

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A 38-year-old student was fatally shot Saturday after getting into a physical confrontation with campus police.
Campus police responded to a disturbance call in the University Village student housing, an off-campus dorm, just before 7 p.m.
According to campus police, two officers got into a physical confrontation with a student, described as a 38-year-old black male.
The man fought with both officers, injuring one of them.
Both of the officers fired saying they feared for their safety.
The suspect was hit in the upper torso. It was unclear how many times the suspect was shot.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the campus police.
According to Lieutenant Paul Williams of the San Bernardino Police Department, the injured campus officer was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition. He was not injured by gunfire and he described the officer’s injuries as non-life threatening.
