Once again, shows the foolishness of roadblocks and draconian drunk driving enforcement "for our safety", for the farce it is.

Oh, and this:

The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.

HURRICANE, W.Va. (AP) - A Clarksburg man is dead following a crash during a high-speed police chase in Putnam County.

The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards tells media outlets that the victim was suspected of taking items from a store in Hurricane. Hurricane police saw the man and pursued him onto I-64.

Edwards says the vehicles' speeds reached 100 miles per hour. The man's car turned sideways and hit the back of a parked tractor-trailer as he apparently tried to enter a rest stop.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Edwards identified him as 44-year-old Jan Dennis Perry.

No other injuries were reported.

/facepalm What's wrong with the Clarksburg PO? Even the redneck precincts use helicopters to follow guys fleeing by car nowadays (unless they're dumb as rocks). It's not like there's some shortage of federal money being thrown at the cops. :P

Well thank goodness!

Our streets are safer and no officer was wounded.

I've always wondered why they put so many people's live's in risk just to catch some drug dealer or someone who committed a victimless crime. If they start to run then just let them run so innocent people aren't in danger.

Also, what is that majestic equality quote from?

Also, what is that majestic equality quote from?

I first came across that quote in EasyRiders magazine well over 30 years ago now.

They used to post that as the banner quote in a section of the mag called "Lockdown" that published prison letters.

It is a quote from French novelist Anatole France, taken from his novel, "The Red Lily":

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich and the poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."
