Did you know the Department of Homeland Security is building a $4 billion, 170-acre complex for 17,000 employees? It was news to me...

"The US Department of Homeland Security, despite budget cuts and construction delays, is planning to add 17,000 employees into its consolidated headquarters in southeast Washington. The department broke ground at their new headquarters in 2009 and was originally scheduled for completion in 2016. The new complex is now scheduled for completion in 2022."

It's gotta be Wash State since there's nowhere in SE DC that you'll find that much acreage for such a complex.

Spend that money while it's still worth something!

17,000 "elite" welfare recipients, hmmmm, that's at least $ 680,000,000.00 in annual taxpayer donations at only $40,000.00 per year for each recipient..

Good thing our economy is doing so well, these paragons of integrity are necessary to safeguard our freedom.. //sarc

Nope, D.C.

The project also could be a catalyst for reviving D.C.'s long-neglected Ward 8, according to officials. The area, in Southeast Washington, historically has been economically depressed and isolated from official Washington. Napolitano emphasized that DHS employees will be neighbors of and active participants in the Ward 8 community, which is represented on the city council currently by former Washington Mayor Marion Barry. As construction of the new facility begins, area residents will be able to take advantage of jobs and apprenticeship opportunities.
Oh, also, it used to be nuthouse:

The renovation of the former psychiatric institution is the largest federal building project since the Pentagon was built

Must be DC since that's where the St Elizabeth Hospital talked about in the article.

I'm glad they're building it in DC instead of Washington State. It's better to keep all the evil consolidated to a smaller geographic area, leaving the rest slightly less tainted.

The only reason that building is necessary is so they can further dominate the American population. Multibillion NSA facility in Utah, now a multibillion DHS facility in DC - what next? :(

Thought I remembered the St. Elizabeths Hospital from other research. Sure enough, they were heavily involved (and probably still are) in MK Ultra mind control.

Nazi Germany had some huge construction projects and dept expansions/creations in the years before the Holocaust......but hey, this is America, "it'll never happen here!"/s .

I'm sure everyday German citizens said the same exact thing.

I could have sworn Dubya promised us that DHS wouldn't grow the government because it was just a way to coordinate the efforts of existing departments, not a whole new bureau of its own.

Glad I never believed a word Dubya said. Pity so many did...

You beat me to it.

So fitting that they would put it in a nut house - as everything they do is fo frickin INSANE!

I remember they gave it some Orwellian name like Freedom somethingoranother...

Correction: "Patriot Center" is in SW DC, and the name of DHS's current HQ.

it's also funny how they put it in the middle of the getto. Tons of street crime, drug dealing, and so on. What could possibly go wrong?

Something tells me that whole area is about to become pole cam central...

You know - I just thought of a way we could save a bunch of money that could go to averting that fiscal cliff...

Ah ok. I envisioned an empty space being used, not demolishing existing structures.

See, you weren't thinking like a govt planner. Why just build, when you can both destroy and rebuild! eg: Iraq

True. It's not enough to spend once to build the project. Instead, let's spend twice that amount for demolition AND construction.

Wouldn't it just be possible to lock all 17,000 of 'em in the booby-hatch and toss the key without remodeling?

Hell. Maybe I should go apply for homeland security. Decent pay, government benefit/pensions, feeling of power to harass law abiding citizens.. and from the looks of the picture above you can play golf on the roof top.

If I had to wager, I'd say it's probably already compromised by the Chinese, and possibly others as well.

I'd hate to be the one insuring those windows. Then again, they are probably 3" lexithan.

Remember the US Embassy in Moscow? It had so many bugs in the cement they had to abandon it.

Then again, every one working on it probably has to get a security clearance. Probably why it's going to take 13 years to construct.
