Google fears that upcoming conference could give governments too much control over Internet governance, launches an online campaign to keep everyone in the loop.

This is interesting. This is the first time I can remember Google posting a call to action on their famously empty and no-nonsense homepage.

This is the message now showing up at http://www.google.com/ below the search bar:

Love the free and open Internet? Tell the world's governments (https://www.google.com/takeaction/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=hpp&utm_campaign=12032012freeandopen_en) to keep it that way.

'Father of the internet': Why we must fight for its freedom

Vinton Cerf is Google's chief internet evangelist. He, along with American computer scientist Bob Kahn, is often called one of the "fathers of the Internet." Cerf is credited with helping to develop the protocols and structure of the internet and the first commercial email system.

The internet empowers each one of us to speak, create, learn and share. Today, more than two billion people are online — about a third of the planet

Google may be against a thing or two, but they entirely don't give a shit when it comes to you or your privacy. Google cares about google and doesn't give the slightest shit about US. They pretend to sometimes, but their actions speak louder.

The world has one government? I thought that was just a conspiracy theory.

Google is using the rubes for its own sake. Sheep are for shearing and Google is evil.

Obviously this is written because of the users scrutiny of occupy but the same concept applies elsewhere.

I Am Not Big Brother. Sadly for me, this is a bunch of malarkey. You may chafe at how much the online world knows about you, but campaigns don’t know anything more about your online behavior than any retailer, news outlet or savvy blogger.

Yeah, but they are doing it in a way that gets your email address, naturally. C4L should set up a petition.
