There needs to be some way to put the purse strings of elected officials and government employees in the hands of the citizens.
If such things as an accusation of impropriety could immediately withhold pay and benefits I'm betting that the will of the people would come closer to being represented.
Why is it that "public servants" aren't held to the same standards as those employed in the private sector?
If your auto mechanic damages your vehicle when it's in his shop there's no question of liability and he'll generally do what it takes to make things right..
Cops and politicians are lesser species than auto mechanics yet they enjoy a protected source of revenue..
There has to be a way to give the citizens control of their salaries....
