UN official calls for marijuana ballot rollback

The head of the U.N. drug watchdog agency is urging U.S. federal officials to challenge ballot measures in Colorado and Washington that decriminalized possession of small amounts of marijuana for adults 21 and over.

Raymond Yans says the approvals send "a wrong message to the rest of the nation and it sends a wrong message abroad."

Yans heads the International Narcotics Control Board. He told The Associated Press on Tuesday he hopes Attorney General Eric Holder "will take all the necessary measures" to ensure that marijuana possession and use remains illegal throughout the U.S.

Nothing they can do about it, realistically, without the cooperation of local governments. The guy whose job it is to complain about it will complain about it, and that's about the limit of it.

The UN is just anti-liberty and pro-centralized control. Ban drugs, ban guns because it'll create more strife and an excuse for more government.

This could get ugly. FedGov is between a rock and a hard place, and the UN just hardened the hard place a little.

Good! Now I can point out to my UN hating friend (He understands the their globalist agenda) that he and the UN are both on the same side --> Pro war-on-drugs. -- I keep telling my friend that I'm going to push for alcohol prohibition to keep him and others from indulging in the real gate way drug - (He's a wine drinker) - I tell him that there is flash bang grenade just waiting for him. Ha Ha:D

To the people calling for America to get out of the UN, I just want to say that I agree with you all. But America is the UN, they call the shots, make the agenda and then twist arms to get it passed. The only thing that will change with leaving the UN is those policies will now be pushed by national politicians. Don think for a second that any proposal like this gets to the UN assembly without the approval to US ambassador to the UN

National politicians can't hide behind the United Nations, like George Bush did with the Iraq "War" if we pull out of the UN.

This doesn't change federal law, all it does is change state law. Federal drug laws are still on the books. The problem is that the Feds dont have enough enforcement mechanism, they depend on the state government to enforce their laws (which the state government is not actually obligated to do).

If you look at how alcohol prohibition started breaking down, you'll see that states like NY simply made alcohol legal again on the state level, and even though federal enforcement was still on the books, the Feds had no way to enforce it so the whole thing just collapsed.

Which will eventually happen. Like marijuana or not, a rational person understands that one way or another its going to be legalized because acceptance is at a critical mass level.
