I'll make sure to watch that. It always amuses me how these conservatives have no answer for Jon Stewart's elementary criticisms. I hope the Judge doesn't get drawn into a debate about Fox News' biases though.

But even senators like Jim DeMint have gone on the Daily Show, and Stewart has used completely idiotic arguments and they go unanswered. That really worries me sometimes.

Judge Nap will surely use his time to discuss the police state/over militirization of America. Constitutional violations are also sure to be discussed. I can't wait to watch. Usually the interview is longer than the ten minutes allotted for television so you can pick up the full interview on thedailyshow.com.. Just look for the full episode tab.

Hopefully, he does better than the last time I saw him on the show. He didn't defend his arguments very well back then.

Oh boy, from what I've noticed progressives basically worship Wilson and Teddy, almost as much as FDR.

So how does everyone think The Judge did? There will be an extended interview on The Daily Show website later tonight BTW, which isn't done for every guest.

It was very chummy, and viewers will have a positive view of him and his libertarian message.

I hope the extended interview is better it seemed that Stewart really interrupted to much and didn't ask enough questions.

"I hope you're not going to ask me to defend O'Reilly." :D I thought overall it was good so I will definitely be waiting for the entire interview. As someone else has stated I feel he had a very likeable tone for non-libertarians.

No Jon, the articles of confederation was not thrown out for the Constitution so your mommy and daddy could get a free education.

Jon Stewart is considered the foremost authority on everything, according to the know-it-all 20 somethings. Didn't you hear?

Yeah, millions of people immigrated to this country and were dirt poor, they had almost nothing. Impossible according to Jon Stewart.

matt0611
11-16-2012, 10:40 AM
Also, LOL @ Jon's BS about Obama won so "people do want an active and strong federal government"

Well, Americans also re-elected a strong republican house majority too, so John Boehner and the tea-partiers must have a mandate to cut taxes and slash government spending now right Jon?

Maybe Americans just didn't like Mitt Romney?

True, but do we want to live in a country where poor people have to regularly make that decision?

I think Napalitano did well enough, especially talking about the amendment thing. Our modus operandi has been to follow the constitution until it become inconvenient.

I don't think that's what he said. I think he's talking about the historical support of things like Medicare, Social Security and all that.

Do we want to be a country where poor people can immigrate to and can freely move around within to find a better life? Uhm yeah? Why wouldn't we want that?

BenIsForRon

Do we want to be a country where poor people can immigrate to and move around within to find a better life? Uhm yeah? Why not?

I'm talking about poor people being forced to move around by circumstances beyond their control, like lack of education or healthcare options. I'm arguing from Stewart's point of view.

Not that I agree with the national healthcare or education approach, just that "Well, move to another state" is not a solid argument for people already down on their luck. It's a life altering, very risky decision to move hundreds of miles away when you're dirt poor. We as a society are trying to achieve a situation where people don't have to live like a refugee in their own country.

So the argument shouldn't be "Well, move to another state", but that diversity among governing styles in states will eventually reveal superior methods to providing services. Like if healthcare becomes really affordable other states will try to emulate it.

No, he was talking about this election specifically. So it would include in general what the federal government does; entitlements, welfare, warfare, regulations, etc

His argument was people voted for Obama -> this proves Americans want a strong centralized government, Obama has a mandate etc

Bern
11-16-2012, 11:37 AM
Obama barely managed a majority of the popular vote:

http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/national.php

That's not a "mandate" IMO.

What we want is a country that doesn't have poor people. But that's not actually feasible as long as we define poverty in relative terms.

True. Reminds me of an exchange I heard when watching a video of economist Thomas Sowell having a debate with a progressive.

Sowell: "You act like there's a predestined amount of poverty..."

Progressive: "There is a predestined bottom 20% of the population..."

Sowell: "Well that's always been true and I don't think you'll find a statistician in the world that will disagree with you."

I wish the judge would have been able to finish on the Brown vs board of education discussion. I would of been interested on how he would of responded when Stewart said the Federal Government needs to control education in order to assure there is no discrimination. Any one here have any ideas?
