Does anyone think that too much attention and focus is paid to the Office of the President?

I'm more concerned with how to reduce and check the power of the Executive Branch, than who actually presides over it.

So good and wise people of RPF, do you think that we rely too much on who sits as POTUS to quantify or conclude success in respect to the goals of liberty? Secondly, if yes, what are the offices in local, state, and federal that you think hold a greater weight and deserve more attention to help realize those goals?

Yes, yes, yes, one thousand times, yes. People, for whatever reason, are unbelievably concerned with who the President is. What they don't know is that their vote is absolutely worthless when voting for the President. Where their vote does matter is at the state and local level. In some towns, Executive Boards and Mayor Elections come down to a few hundred votes. Talk about holding a lot of influence.

For most people, the President will never directly impact their lives. On the other hand, State and local officials impact our lives everyday. Your State Rep/State Senator try and bring pork barrel projects to your district and the Mayor and other local officials control budgets at the local level. That stuff is huge and it directly impacts people. People should be focusing most of their efforts on their State Representatives and local officials. An added benefit of this is that local officials usually ascend to higher offices.
