Watch a REAL Debate on C-SPAN Tonight!
Tonight's the night of YAL's last Campus Debate at American University! And we have big news: It's being televised by C-SPAN!

You can watch the entire conservative vs. libertarian vs. liberal debate live online tonight @ 7 p.m. at www.YALiberty.org/Debates.

American Spectator senior editor Jim Antle will offer the conservative perspective; Reason Magazine columnist Tim Cavanaugh will give the libertarian perspective; and author Bill Scher will present the liberal perspective. You do not want to miss this debate!

In fact, if you're within driving distance of Washington, DC, we'd love to have you join us. The debate starts at 7 p.m. tonight at Kreeger Building G01 on the American University campus (map). It's free to attend, but seating is limited, so arrive early.

See you tonight!

Jim Antle's pretty great. He's a Ron Paul man, and is voting for Johnson (http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-conservative-vote-a-symposium/#antle). I confess, I have a little crush on him! I love his snark (https://twitter.com/jimantle).

I'll tune in, thanks!

I like Antle too, even if I'd prefer he wrote in Ron personally....:p.,.. but I think it isn't fair to say he gives the 'conservative' view, he gives the paleoconservative view, which is much better than what passes for conservatism in many areas these days...

Agreed! I love how they totally cut out the neo-con establishment. If only more people would ignore them. Too bad the MSM only hires neo-cons to represent the "conservative" view!

They do have a liberal, that would be duplication.

Or is the liberal guy more a principled progressive?

I did a little checking earlier, b/c that's what I was going to say. He bashes neo-cons, though that doesn't mean much. He backs Obama's wars, thinks we should "calm down (http://www.liberaloasis.com/2011/12/the_liberaloasis_radio_show_br_1.php)" about indefinite detention, and "Obama's 'kill list' is squarely within the century-long tradition of Democratic foreign policy (http://bloggingheads.tv/videos/9828)."

so, there you are, they just chose a dem to support the neocon position, which is where the doctrine was born, and appropriate.

Which CSpan? I don't see it on the CSpan schedule here:
http://www.c-spanvideo.org/schedule

I do find it under Today's Events, but it says:

No airings have been scheduled for this event.

At 7pm EST, they list:
CSpan1: Arizona Senate Debate
CSpan2: New Hampshire 1st Congressional District Debate
Cpsan3: Iran's Nuclear Program

Can anyone shed more light on this? Sailing, where did you get your info?

I don't know, I posted what was in the email, I thought. I'll see if I missed a link. There is the other link in the OP to watch it, though.

edit, here's the upcoming schedule, but I don't see more than that, besides what I posted: http://www.yaliberty.org/debates

True that! So there will be a neo-con POV, but at least he won't be wearing a red jersey!

If folks like what YAL is doing, you can like YAL on Facebook (warning, don't like YAL if you don't like silly memes) and join YAL. It is only $10 and includes a YAL shirt, a subscription to the quarterly magazine, a subscription to the online newsletter and if applicable, the ability to attend the YAL National Convention and intern with YAL. Join YAL http://www.yaliberty.org/join

Of course, if you don't like YAL, you may always join C4L http://www.campaignforliberty.org/, DownSizeDC http://www.downsizedc.org/ or another group. My personal favorite is the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance. You may join for free or become a voting member for a low, low price. http://www.nhliberty.org/

Obamacare hasn't cut costs! Good Lord, this guy is either a shameless liar or stupid.

"You can't eat GDP." Tim, talking about price inflation.

"Neither party talks about this at all. The absolutely failure of Keynesian economics. The medicine is killing the patient."

That Scher sure has a punchable face, with his smug little grin. Now he's defending the bank bailouts.

Tim's winning this debate.

Lucille
11-01-2012, 05:55 PM
Tim: Bigger is not always better. I might go back and say maybe the Constitution is the problem and we should go back to the Articles of Confederation.

Awesome.

Small is Beautiful!

Jim's late b/c he took public transportation, and the other two didn't. Heh.

Lucille
11-01-2012, 06:11 PM
Tim is apologizing for his fellow Cosmotarians for not giving the Tea Party enough credit for opposing just govt spending.

Too bad it was usurped by the neocon establishment and it turned into a pro-war, anti-Obama, keep your govt hands off my Medicare group.

Jim, finally! He says he's become a radical anarchist after his travails over his escape from the burning DC Metro. LOL...

Foreign policy question to the neocon in the blue jersey now. NDAA, Patriot Act... Maybe he'll tell him to "calm down."

He's denying Obama claimed the power to indefinitely to detain American citizens. Dude's clueless.

Scher: "Obama ended systematic torture. Period." Yes, he just sends in the drones and assassinates them now.

Ron Paul!

That's what I think too! Romney wins the popular vote and Obama the EC. And that it would be better for conservatives who care about civil liberties and the Pentagon budget of Obama wins.

First question was about Obamney "slaying" people with drones.

Tim said "drone" is a hot topic and if you put it in your headline your hits increase by 50%. That's good news. He was followed by a helicopter one night while he was walking his daughter trying to get her to go to sleep*. It had the spotlight on him the whole time. He blew them kisses.

*He should try he vacuum! Worked for my colicky babies. Sometimes I just stood it up, turned it on and let it run.

They all agreed that it's not the drone technology that's the problem, but the "collateral damage."

I dunno. I've become a bit of a neo-Luddite since the surveillance state ramped up hard the last 10 years. Wendell Berry for President!

It was good! I missed the last 15 or so though. We won.

I would put my daughter in her car seat on top of the dryer while it ran. She'd calm down right away.

I'm a Wendell Berry fan too. I wish I'd seen this debate. I'll try and watch it later. Thanks for the running commentary.

I hope someone uploaded it to youtube. I missed a lot. More than 15 min. I think.

It was funny to watch the prog defend the establishment's war on drugs, bank bailouts, kills lists, indefinite detention, endless war, etc.
