The American government has officially stated that fracking can cause earthquakes (http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2011/08/its-official-human-activity-can-cause-earthquakes.html). Some fracking companies now admit (http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-11-07/europe/30368594_1_shale-gas-fracking-process-tremors) this fact The scientific community agrees. See this (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-12/earthquake-outbreak-in-central-u-s-tied-to-drilling-wastewater.html), this (http://news.yahoo.com/unusual-dallas-earthquakes-linked-fracking-expert-says-181055288.html), this (http://www.livescience.com/22151-fracking-earthquakes-fluid-injection.html), this (http://stateimpact.npr.org/texas/2012/08/06/how-fracking-disposal-wells-are-causing-earthquakes-in-dallas-fort-worth/) and this (http://www2.seismosoc.org/FMPro?-db=Abstract_Submission_12&-sortfield=PresDay&-sortorder=ascending&-sortfield=Special+Session+Name+Calc&-sortorder=ascending&-sortfield=PresTimeSort&-sortorder=ascending&-op=gt&PresStatus=0&-lop=and&-token.1=ShowSession&-token.2=ShowHeading&-recid=224&-format=%2Fmeetings%2F2012%2Fabstracts%2Fsessionabs tractdetail.html&-lay=MtgList&-find).

We’re not aware of any potential impacts and don’t expect any,” said FirstEnergy spokeswoman Jennifer Young today. “We see no reason to be particularly concerned.” ***
[B] experts can’t say if the proposed well so close to two nuclear power plants is cause for concern.
***
DEP spokesperson John Poister told the Shale Reporter that there are no required setbacks specifically relating to a required distance between such shale wells and nuclear facilities, just a blanket regulation requiring a 500-foot setback from any building to a natural gas well.

Who in their right mind would even risk fracking that close to a NPP? We are so desperate for natural gas and it is so scarce that we would allow companies to try? Lunacy.

But then the government could save us.

And what's your point of posting this hit piece. If you're anti-nuclear, just come out and say so.

Pumping water out of the ground on your own land MAY lead to increased seismicity. Maybe you shouldn't be self reliant when it comes to water because you MAY damage the power plant on the other side of the county.

Just say'in.

I'm definitely anti nuclear on fault lines.

I'm also seeing some wisdom in not engaging in behaviour, that has been shown to cause localized seismic activity, near nuke facilities. Especially, given our ongoing quake related Fukashima crisis.

Kind of like not smoking while you pump gas.

One or the other.
