Better Odds: Winning Big or Finding a Job in Reno?
http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/Better-Odds-Winning-Big-or-Finding-a-Job-in-Reno-174885241.html

RENO, Nev.-A website ranks Reno as the worst city in the country to find a job. Careerbliss.com says if you’re looking for a job here, “you might have better odds winning big at one of the downtown casinos.”

But local staffing experts say the odds are a little better than that.

“We do have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country but you can find work here,” Adecco Staffing Branch Manager Milt Muniz said. “We have jobs every single day and we fill positions every single day. There is work out there; you just have to want to work.”

Last month bartender Kerry Ross lost her job due to season staffing changes. She found a new job within days.

“Looking for a job is a full time job!” Ross said. “I had to leave the house early in the morning and didn’t get home until late evening. I didn’t go to the gym. It was a lot of work but I was hired within a week.”

Ross took the time to update and polish her resume before she started hitting the pavement-a move that most likely paid off.

“I shot it back and forth with a good friend of mine and we really worked it out,” Ross said. That’s a lot of it too because I have a lot of experience but if it doesn’t look good on paper you’re not going to get in the door.”

Muniz says it’s no harder to find a job these days than in the past.

“I’ve lived in this community just about my entire life and I’ve never had any trouble finding a job,” Muniz said. “Most of the people we put to work here stay consistently busy so as long as you want to work we’ll find something for you. It just depends on what you’re looking for.”

He says there are a lot of jobs available in manufacturing right now and with the upcoming holiday season they’ll be new opportunities in shipping, receiving and distribution.

Rounding out the top 5 worst cities to look for a job according to careerbliss.com are Boulder, Colo, Wichita, Kan, Greensboro, N.C. and Birmingham, Ala.

Saw this on the news earlier. Yeah, guess where I live.

Then they turn around with this spin on here, oh its so easy to get a job within a week. Take a look on Career Builder in Reno. There are only a handful of new jobs here, and I dont qualify for 99% of them. Oh, but our unemployment is only at 11%, new bullshit statistics are coming out tomorrow accordingly. I wonder what they will look like? Maybe when they start reporting that unemployment in this city is about 35%, I'll start listening.

Economic recovery? Really? Where? So why bother to post this story? If you actually think there is going to be an economic recovery any time soon, youre dreaming. Its called the American Dream, because you have to be Asleep to believe it! (George Carlin) What is happening here, what is happening in Detroit, Chicago, and many other very hard hit areas, its coming to YOUR town. Shit is continuing to get worse and worse and worse. There are fewer and fewer jobs to apply for. Most idiots tell you to "go home and go to their website", which just makes me want to reach across the counter and impale their skulls on something nearby that is long and sharp. All of my neighbors have lost their jobs. And where I live is mostly mobile homes. Half of those homes are in such bad condition that when people leave, our land owner here (we own the home, rent the land) is having to tear down these mobiles because they are fit to be condemned.

And shit isnt even "Bad" yet. But what is happening here WILL be coming to YOUR neighborhood soon enough, if it isnt there already. All this Obama vs Romney is going to fix the economy with Keynesian Economics vs more Keynesian Economics. There is no coffee to get anyone to wake up to any more. So I cant even say "Wake up and smell the coffee" because there isnt any. The only thing that comes close is a line from Half Life 2 - "Wake up and smell the ashes."

This economic crisis is in progress. When people say what will you do when the shit hits the fan, they misunderstand that the shit is not necessarily going to hit the fan for everyone all at once. The shit has already hit the fan for a lot of people. Those who still have good jobs don't see it because they are fooled into thinking that they are immune. They see themselves as hard workers and if they lost their job then they'll just go get another one. That is how it has been in the past. However, past performance does not guarantee future results. Sure enough jobs can be found. Yet, most jobs being offered today in much of the country are low paying benefit poor labor intensive menial tasks. When you are sitting in a room with 65 other people trying to get the only job offered, then it is no longer what you know but who you know.

As this economic crisis plays out more and more people are going to learn that this recovery is not like it has been in the past. The people in Argentina learned that lesson first hand.

If you have read about Argentininian collapse, this is very true, as well as Ukraine, balitc satellites. Certain areas, say rural communties, or one employer communties get hit first. Then it rolls onward to other sectors, other towns, other cities, other communties
