I heard the founder of the "Frederick Douglass Republicans (http://frederickdouglassrepublican.com/)" on the radio the other morning. This seems to be a parallel movement in the African-American Community of Liberty loving individuals who are sick of government oppression and 'enslavement'. Who see the government giving with one hand, and with the other hand; using those gifts to keep them down.

They have based their mission on the life and values of Frederick Douglass. These are their core values:

from: http://frederickdouglassrepublican.com/

Respect for the Constitution- “The American Constitution is a written instrument full and complete in itself. No court in America, no Congress, no President, can add a single word thereto, or take a single word there from. It is a great national enactment done by the people, and can only be altered, amended, or added to by the people.” ~ Frederick Douglass
Respect for Life – Douglass Championed women’s rights and was the face of the Abolitionist Movement.
Belief in Individual Responsibility – Douglass viewed entitlements as a detriment to freed slaves because it robs one the chance of self-sufficiency
Belief in Limited Government – Douglass believed the role of government is to protect the freedom of opportunity for its citizens.

I agree with those values!!

Unlike the "Tea Party" which was immediately (and mostly falsely) labelled 'racist' - invoking the name of Frederick Douglass shuts down that argument with nothing more said. The movement is for all people of all races who believe in the values of Frederick Douglass.

They even produced a movie "Runaway Slave" - haven't seen it yet, but the trailer looks good! The only troubling part is the appearance of "Freedom Works", Glenn Beck, and Herman Cain in the preview.

I'm not sure how closely tied to "Freedom Works" they are.. but this movement on the surface (to me) looks like something we can work with or help get behind.. at the very least it's worth watching and being aware of. It could be a gateway, or a way to open a dialogue, with people who have preconceptions about Ron Paul.

It has certainly made me want to learn more about Frederick Douglass!

Talk to GunnyFreedom. Frederick Douglass, and his beliefs, had a large impact on getting him elected in a heavily Democrat demographic.

I think they already are allies, maybe we should "reach out and touch" these folks? I'm sure there are other groups we should be trying to connect with also.
