There are some days, and this is one, where I just lose all hope and weep for the future...

Cameras stream Mission to PD, watch Mission streets

MISSION — In an ironic turn of events, assets belonging to criminal organizations were used to make this city a safer place.

New cameras popping up in major intersections throughout Mission have become a tool for law enforcement and were paid for by asset-forfeiture funds.

Mission police have implemented a state-of-the-art camera network that provides dispatchers with live surveillance video of the city streets, police Chief Martin Garza said.

The cameras were set up during the last week of August and became operational soon thereafter. In the first two weeks on the job, the camera system helped investigators corroborate stories and apprehend a carjacking suspect in the intersection of Shary Road and Expressway 83, Garza said.

The video system consists of 32 cameras that have been placed in major city intersections and city parks that not only work as a crime deterrent but also aid emergency responders in learning about auto wrecks before citizens call 9-1-1, Garza said.

“Our dispatchers will be monitoring these cameras,” he said. “This will allow us to respond to accidents right after they happen.”

The roughly $395,000 price tag for the 32 cameras was covered by asset-forfeiture funds. The program, now in its second phase, already has built the network that lets authorities track a vehicle’s movements and zoom in on faces and license plate numbers.

Initially the Police Department set up the cameras in the city parks, main intersections and the outskirts of the city with the intention to move to the city’s interior in the near future, Garza said.

“Because we already set up the network, we only have to pay for additional cameras, which saves us a considerable amount of money,” Garza said.

The Police State validates its existence by solving the very problems it creates itself. If these cameras were not everywhere, many things (not carjackings) would barely be considered a crime. But by facilitating the need to monitor everything, we will soon probably end up having laws against spitting on the sidewalk, where the cameras create the problem that only they have the solution to, which is the method of validation for the need of the Police State and a perpetual surveillance system.

One of our last very hot topics was on Spanking. Spanking is abused as one of those self validating problem solutions and an excuse to put a camera in your living room. The more that we demand of government, the more they abide by selectively listening to cries that can further perpetuate government. They give us all what a few of us may desire. I dont want to derail the topic so I'll stick to the Surveillance of the Police State as the point.

Every excuse to invade your privacy is being considered. Every time that anyone that lives in the US (not necessarily a citizen) cries out for something to be made illegal, the government consideres abiding those requests, which is one step closer to the Govt Camera in your Living Room. You might slip and fall in the shower. Excuse to put a Govt Camera in your shower. You might beat your child. Excuse to put a Govt Camera in your child's room. You might insert a screwdriver into your penis, or your penis into a vacuum, even if the product is labeled to not use their products in such a manner. Excuse to put a Govt Camera on you at all times.

The internet is also a good example. People are now being arrested for saying shit online that offends someone else for some reason. There isnt even a crime. There is no threat being made. Its stuff like I like Peanut Butter more than Chocolate, and people are getting arrested for saying it on the internet. Why? Someone might get offended and those that are cry out for the Chocolate over Peanut Butter advocates to be silenced. Constant and total monitoring. Someone is always going to be offended by ANY opinion. Im not christian, which will offend some christians. Other religions would say as long as I belong to one of their selective groups, then, and only then would those groups be okay with me, otherwise, they would reject me as a person, and every idea that I express. If people behaved just as extreme over preferences like Coke over Pepsi, or Colgate over Aquafresh, the obviousness that the dangers of total surveillance would be much more obvious.

There is a solution. We dont validate the Police States existence by validating the very problems they cause. You want to surf gay porn? Not my business. Youre not a christian? Not my business. You come into my home and I give you permission to come in, I have a few reasonable rules. You come into my home without my permission? I am going to defend my home with every ounce of strength I have. Likewise, if I am invited into your home, I'll abide by any rules you have in your house. We dont need Govt to monitor us because of some possible conflict we might have. But we validate it when we disagree and demand an Arbitrator. You wont let me snork cocaine in your house and now suddenly we demand Govt Arbitration? That is what facilitates the demand for more and more unsustainable Govt. The solution is that you and I dont push each others boundaries too far, even if we disagree, we can both choose to lead by example and leave each other alone. But even that divides us to a certain extent. Oh, your child has a Peanut Allergy? Well I like peanut butter, and will put down my peanut butter and stand up for your right to say that there is a zero peanut butter tolerance policy in your house! We defend each others rights to choose the things we dont like. We invalidate the existence of the Police State by denying that the perceived problems are problems for the Govt to solve.

If we can change the direction of this country, it will be a very long road back to liberty, but it is possible, and we are the ones that have the power to make it possible.

Those laws, "spitting on the street" and millions just like them, are already on the books, dead lettered due to the fact that enforcement was impossible.

Until now...

Yep-and certain sexual acts are illegal in many states, of which most of us are probably guilty of doing this week at some point or another(hopefully) .:p:o

People like Rick Santorum would love to have cameras in our bedrooms, to make sure you weren't having too much fun.

I hope they steal more stuff so they get more cameras so they steal more stuff. It would be really cool if every inch of pavement in an entire city was being recorded 24 hours a day. It should all be put online for everyone to see. Yeah!

I guess this is about the same as auctioning off contraband for money like they've always done. It's not really new except putting up cameras is relatively new.

I bet they bought the same brand of cameras they used in their dash-cam's. You know, the kind that malfunctions when it's recording the police
