Pretty diabolical if you ask me. This has nothing to do with greater crime solving since one could easily fabricate a firing pin with a bogus etching.

Yes, but, they just had not sufficiently dumbed, numbed and slummed down the population then. They never stop, they just temporarily retreat and re-educate the masses.

Actually, they went to PD's and explained why their departments would not be able to affort target practice for their officers at $20 a round and that they might not be able to obtain ammo at any cost as it would bankrupt the entire industry. Also how trivial it would be to circumvent. Some guy who invented the tech and had a patent on it and a lawyer was going around. Got knocked down in every state he tried.

Couldn't you just change the firing pin? Or file it down 1/100000th of an inch and the etching would be gone?
