that game is fun. Sometimes its just luck of the draw, but that can be handled with some good strategy.

So the strategy is that you don't want to go into rooms and fight where you lose the battle. This can be done by hovering over the monster, and comparing it's stats to yours.
You can sneak around some rooms and not even fight.
Use fire scrolls to barricade monsters between spots they cannot get to you, and use a bow.
Use the "fortify" by clicking on yourself when defending against two or more monsters, and you get an automatic counter attack.
use haste when needed to destroy a stronger monster, or get away from one (haste gives you two turns)
some rooms you don't need to fight because there are no items and no chest - you don't gain experience by fighting monsters.
use fire scroll on hovering monsters so they explode and damage monsters in adjacent tiles.

it's doable - will probably take a few different tries and you need to work your way up to two red dragons - meaning you need to pass trough the game a few different times with the dragons increasing in difficulty. =)
