What do you guys think about renting a UHaul truck and covering it with Ron Paul 2008 banners, etc?

Is it more cost effective at $30 a day for the 17 foot truck, than a billboard? It should be legal to park in places where a lot of people drive by, for several days a week.

The usable space is about 14 feet by 7 feet, plenty for a nice big poster.

what do you guys think?

Wow, thats a really good idea.

$30 a day is pretty cheap if you have someone who can drive all over a city for a day. Renting one on black friday and driving by all the stores would be a great way to advertise.

It's a great idea because if you park it in a high-traffic area you don't even need to pay for gas.

some folks are saving for a big ron paul bilboard highway sign, but having trouble coming up with the $2000-$3000 for the add.

This sounds like an excellent alternative and alotta savings as well.

However, I think the best way is to find a land owner with some side of highway clear land and build a huge Ron Paul sign out of wood and paint the add on the bilboard....find a good painter who can paint ron paulls pic, or get it made from the bilboard designers and paste it on, but a huge banner on the side of a truck is great as well!

Location is important, just like you suggested! I was thinking of parking on the street in high volume areas for a few days at a time, but definitely, parking on someone's property where it overlooks a highway would be fantastic.

This is a great idea, but I would assume that there would be some legality issues behind it. I'm pretty sure that you can't use a commercial truck to support personal advertising.

Why? As long as you cleaned off the stickers before you turned it into the U-Haul how are there any issues whatsoever?

If you completely cover the van so that none of the "UHAUL" signs is visible than Nobody would know that it's not your van

And as I always say

Do it first

And apologize when your told it's not allowed

I'm pretty sure that they charge per mile driven, there may be
some free mileage, but, usually it's expense to drive around ~

Probably best just to park in high traffic areas ect..
and hope no one defaces it like they been doing to yard signs ect..

you cant just drive it around all day, they charge by the mile. Uhaul is 59 cents per mile on weekdays, 99 cents per mile on weekends.

Yeah, the idea is to PARK it! In a high visibility area. Thanks for reminding me about covering all the UHaul logos, etc.

Neat idea, but specifically how do you cover the sides and back so it looks good, is removable, and won't come off when you drive?

I was thinking of printing on a tarp, or something similar, that could be rolled or folded up and stored in the locked truck at night. In the morning, drive to the scouted location, park, and roll out the banners. In the evening, pack it up and lock it up again.

Or I could paint big signs on plywood, and hang the signs of of the side of the truck on a 2x4 that goes over the top, straddling it.

That seems easier to maintain.

I wonder if the Home Owners Association would object to a 50 foot flagpole and a Google Ron Paul flag :D

Options, nice banner. We can just do what Truckin Mike does. Just get the big 8'x4' cloroplast sign and tie them on any thing. I'm looking for a way to get a couple so I can but them in the sides of my mini van. Whats nice about those signs are ones can use them anywhere. Drive around with them and then carry in a rally. Is anyone making big provessional vinyl signs that can be used over billboards or trucks?

This is a great idea. I just saw a prime example of this today. Toll Brothers (Home Builder) had a tractor trailer trailer painted with an ad for their new development and the trailer was parked in a commercial lot on the busy road.

It was the biggest sign on the road and entirely legal.

just buy a beater van or old barely running bread truck.

My dad has a fleet of old tastycake and lays potato chip trucks that he bought at under 2k/ea. and painted white. He uses them for his painting business.

I've been keeping an eye out, as soon as I find a good deal, I'm picking up a few.

Love the idea! But getting ideas in motion may prove tough. Good luck with it.
