A college professor at Brevard Community College (BCC) in Cocoa, Fla. has been placed on leave after she allegedly required her class to sign a pledge to vote for President Barack Obama “and Democrats up and down the ticket.

Campus Reform reports (http://www.campusreform.org/blog/?ID=4364) that professor Sharon Sweet at BCC allegedly told students to sign a pledge (http://www.grassrootstraining.net/CRO/20120917/gottavote.jpg) that states: “I pledge to vote for President Obama and Democrats up and down the ticket.”

The pledge came from “GottaVote.org (http://gottavote.org/),” a website paid for by the Obama campaign.

The Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform has more:

University administrators said they learned about the incident late Thursday afternoon and launched an investigation, after they received a phone call from a concerned parent.

“Based on the allegations, Associate Professor Sweet has requested, and been granted, a leave of absence without pay effective immediately,” reads a statement put out by John Glisch, Associate Vice President for Communications at BCC.

“The college will continue its investigation into the matter, which will include interviews with all students in her class,” continues the statement.

In addition to being inappropriate action in the classroom, Sweet’s pledge requirement may have also violated Florida election law.

Section 104.31, of Title IX in chapter 104, states that “no officer or employee of the state… shall… use his or her official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with an election or nomination of officer or influencing another person’s vote or affecting the result thereof.”

Those two behind the "African Americans for Obama" sign must be South African.

My professor in college tried to force everyone to register to vote. I never did and did not vote.

In this scenario, I don't think there is a receipt when you vote, so there is no way to force someone to vote for Obama.

I never did and did not vote.

Ron Paul, I guess, doesn't deserve your vote.

This was 9 years ago. I did vote for Ron Paul during this primaries.

At the time, I told him I would not vote because there was nobody to vote for. And at that time, that was completely true.

You said "I never did" so I misunderstood what "never did" means. Sorry.

My bad. I said I never did because the elections were a year after I graduated.

I'm glad the students spoke up and said something. Idiot professors. The students are PAYING YOU to teach, not work for the Obama campaign.

Well technically it was a parent:

which struck me as strange since its college and they are adults, but whatever.

This is correct and doesn't apply for the community college, but did you see the number of union signs at the D's convention?? I'd say anyone in any union is basicaly on Obama's payroll.

You must not have heard. Kids are now kids until the mid 40s.

You must not have heard. Kids are now kids until the mid 40s.

Several years back, a professor friend of mine was telling me about parents calling him to argue grades. Although I acknowledge that there have always been parents who have hovered over their kids throughout life (well past college), I found it very hard to believe it was as rampant at the college level as he described. He persisted and convinced me. I'm embarrassed for these "adults" and their parents.
