"Ron Paul, the most famous Tea Party type in Congress."
-Mitch McConnell (http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/12/19/government.spending/index.html)

Who in Washington has been more on the forefront of taking on the most anti-liberty administration since George W. Bush? Who in the U.S. Senate will take on Obama the hardest during his hypothetical second term? The GOP leader, that's who.

Good on Benton for supporting this true American patriot. McConnell may have strayed in the past on a few things such as the wars, foreign policy, the TARP bailouts, the PATRIOT Act, etc., but we know his heart is rooted in the cause of liberty. He'll be the new face of our movement with Ron Paul retiring from elected politics.

By no means am I a McConnell fan, but I just checked his scores at JBS and Freedom works, and I was surprised to see that he is actually on an upward curve. Really bad in 2007 & 2008, but the last few years his votes have been a lot better. I think one of the JBS indexes had him ranked near 90% at one point.

Pretty much every Republican is scored well by those standards.

Hint: The upward turn started when Democrats took Congress in 2007, and accelerated upward when Obama took office in 2009.

Yes and so is Senator Cornyn's. But, I don't think that index includes votes on wars and both people are horrendous on that.

JBS does I believe, Freedomworks does not.

Personally, I think that we will see a lot of mainstream Republicans scores improve simply because we have a larger contingency in the House and Senate and will begin to be able to push more bills through committee. There are a lot in the House and Senate that simply vote the party line, so when our guys change the party line we reap the benefits of those who will vote the party line.

You're right.

The Freedom Index: A Congressional Scorecard Based on the U.S. Constitution” rates Congressmen based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty, and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements.

Cornyn got 100% in the last one, but with regard to the Senate calculation, there were no bills examined that had anything to do with civil liberties. McConnell got 90% and Rand got 89%*.

Voting Index (http://www.jbs.org/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&Itemid=259&id=423%3Afreedom-index-july-2012)

* He didn't vote on the Omnibus Appropriations bill at all and he voted FOR term limits.

We'll get an upclose opportunity to let Mitch, and everyone else, show their stripes as the proverbial "kick the can" "fiscal cliff" "sequestration" deadline approaches.

In other words, he votes against the president's program when that president is a Democrat, and for it when that president is a Republican. That should not be a surprise.

Pretty much so. He is a party line type of guy. Which as I said works to our favor as we increase our numbers within the party. Typically party leadership does not oppose the bills pushed through by the rest of the body. So as we continue to elect more libertarians to the Senate we should be able to expect McConnell's support for the bills we move through the Senate. We just need to keep sending Rand allies.

Yes, "Defenders of Liberty" could use a U.S. Senate candidate with a real shot at winning in 2014. Benton has gotten on board, when will we?
