Advice on Video Editing Software

Ok, so I'm interested finding video editing software to purchase for my company and for Ron Paul videos as well. Currently I've been using the basic Windows Movie Maker.

What video editing software would you recommend for someone that is semi-literate at video editing, but definately not a pro. I want something to make Ron Paul vids as well as some videos for my auctioneering company that I'll post on my website and also burn to dvd to send out.

Are you running windows?

Adobe Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas are both good programs, and I believe Vegas can be had for as little as $99, but I might have to double-check that.
I would recommend trying out the trial versions before you make any purchase, as both programs work VERY differently.

I personally prefer Premiere Pro, though I definitely have a number of gripes with it. I've used Vegas quite a bit, but have just never been able to really feel comfortable using it. On the other hand I know quite a few people that use Vegas and swear by it.

There's nothing free thats any good. Windows Movie Maker is pretty much it. There are a number of free programs out there, but they are all pretty awful.

If you want a full featured editor Vegas Pro 8 is great. It is around $500 but has all the bells and whistles for SD & HD editing. I have heard good things about Vegas Movie Studio which is around $80. Obviously not as full featured but good software. I have heard reasonably good things about Adobe Premiere Elements which runs about $100.

If you are editing for your business I think you will find that the time you same using decent software will quickly pay for itself.

I use and really like: Ulead MediaStudio Pro (http://www.ulead.com/msp/runme.htm) but it is $400 (I needed this to use their rotoscoping tool add-on)

I have also tried their simplier to use/less featured program and it is excellent if it does everything you needVideo Studio (http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm) which can be had for $70-$130.

They have trial versions available for download.

I use magix movie maker - 50 bucks and simple to use.

it utilizes drag and drop to edit. i tried adobe.
u need a good 1 week class to get adobe to work for ya, but
adobe it is the best out there. it just takes long to master all the
powerful features it has.

You can download Adobe Premier Pro trial version for 30 days. Get your story board outlined, and get all your images ready before you download it.

I know that Avid made a free software. Avid is known for it's professional quality editing software.

Pinnacle Videospin (http://www.videospin.com/) is free.
Catch: Some codecs stops working after 2 weeks if you don't pay.
I guess one could use vlc for final conversion.
