What is up with the gas prices?!? $3.74/gal here in SW Missouri. This is PAINFUL!

Anyone else seeing a huge spike today?

$3.74 would be a drop for many areas. Having a monopoly on oil sure helps one get rich fast. Oil could be 1/2 that price per gallon and they would still make a profit.

They went up everywhere. I had to lol at your exclamation over $3.74. When the day started, we were at $4.04, now up to $4.30.

We had a 30 cent spike a few days before the hurricane, it had dropped down by 10 cents last I saw, haven't been out this evening, wouldn't surprise me if they jack it up again just to try and get a Republican in the white house.

Let's see. We have "Gas Prices Stablizing in Virginia" http://www.businessweek.com/ap/2012-09-10/aaa-gas-prices-stabilizing-in-virginia

(article from today which says national average price is $3.88 a gallon).

In Boston the latest weekly survey has it up four cents a gallon http://www.boston.com/businessupdates/2012/09/10/aaa-mass-gas-prices-are-cents-gallon/8pHqjaadoRBg47ilcPrbKJ/story.html

And then:
http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/Energy-Voices/2012/0910/Four-reasons-gas-prices-are-about-to-fall-fast

Four reasons gas prices are about to fall fast

Gas prices are set to decline even without a release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Temporary factors that have pushed up gas prices are now ending.

While U.S. gasoline prices have been on the rise for the past two months — and are presently $0.15/gallon higher than they were a year ago — I expect that gasoline prices will start to fall rapidly in the weeks ahead. There are four reasons for this.

First is that the spike from Hurricane Isaac will be short-lived as damage to oil and gas infrastructure seems to be limited. Facilities will be back online relatively quickly.
Second is that summer driving season is at an end, and demand for gasoline will now decline.
Third, the transition to winter gasoline (explained in depth in Refining 101: Winter Gasoline and Why Summer Gasoline Means Higher Prices) begins on September 15th. This will both lower the cost and increase the supplies of gasoline.
Finally, the recent run-up in oil prices appears to be already priced into the cost of gasoline.

All of these factors point to the strong probability that gasoline prices will fall regardless of any government action between now and the election. Of course there are always factors that could trump these. More hurricanes that keep capacity offline, an outbreak of conflict with Iran, and the terrible accident at Venezuela’s 645,000 barrel-per-day Amuay refining complex are all factors that would work to increase prices. But taking everything into account, the safe bet seems to be that gasoline prices will fall just as they normally do in the fall.

That is generally the lowest priced station around.

BP stations in Brimley are $4.20

wow I feel for everyone paying $4+/gal. Missouri is usually one of the "cheaper" states for gas.

Thanks for the info Zippyjuan. I was just taken aback and in shock seeing the price coming home from work today!

Here it is $3.17 US per gallon equivalent and that includes the blessed carbon tax. We are the only jurisdiction in North America to have carbon tax, I believe (BC, Canada).

This correlates with the recent increase in precious metal prices. Those behind the "curtain" are probably trying to rally support for yet another up and coming QE scheme.

It is only going to get a helluva alot worse going forward , this is all on $96 oil with unemployment so high , 20 percent of the country , need not drive to work , one year forecast has been steady at oil , $109 - $111 , say that is even close , cheap gas , then $4.60 , deisel , near $6 . I will speculate from there , an apple $1.30 , head of lettuce $3 , milk $5 only to get worse the next year , as by 2015 the debt exceeds 25 trillion , 16 trillion today...

It just frappin' FIGURES. My whole life I've driven small cars. ('96 Geo Metro, then a '97 Geo Tracker.) It was only about six months ago that I got with "the times" (for my neck of the woods) and bought a ginormous truck. As in, a '95 GMC Sierra 2500. Going from an 8 gallon gas tank to 34, with prices right around $3.87 a gallon, really blows goats.

It's usually cheaper one county north of us. Yesterday, we drove by the last gas station in the county and saw gas at $4.29. Then we went by the first station in the next county, and it was $3.89. We should have stopped then, because on the way back home it was up to $4.09.

This is what liberals want though. They want to raise the prices of oil sky high to force us into other less efficient forms of energy.

The ol' hillbilly additive is 50/50 xylene acetone mixed together.....2oz mixed with 10gal fuel....Worked well in a 12 to 1 shovelhead with almost 30º advance.. Oh yeah and a glug of Marvel..

Never tried doing this with ethanol based fuels...

Yep. And most of those Octane Boosters are snake oils, I hear Accelerator works but I still wont try it. You would be better off just dumping in a few gallons of race fuel (C16, 110) to bring the octane up but race fuel is very expensive.

QuickZ06

You got a low and high octane table, so even if you do put some low octane fuel (or bad gas) in your ride it will (should) save its self by switching to the lower octane table which will pull some timing to prevent knock.

I wasn't going to waste my time and explain that gas is still gas and silver is still silver. It is the dollar that has hit the shit fan. Sure we've had cracking plant fires and plant shut downs.

The real thing everyone should be grasping is that it looks like it is all over. We had about a year of COUNTERFEITING EASING. All the commodities had dropped or leveled off for a while. That seems to have ended.

For the last year orders increased and traffic of those that could once again earn a living with the meager increase grew, I fear that is over. It looks like the only jobs that will be added from here on will be honest occupations replace by illegal labor or criminal activity with visas.

Some will need more security as they rob those with none.
