Sussex County government, upon further review, has decided against taking on the United Nations.
Freeholder Director Phil Crabb (R) said Friday he will not submit a resolution opposing UN Agenda 21 -- a non-binding plan in support of sustainable development and protecting the environment -- when the all-Republican freeholder board meets on Wednesday.
"It's been pulled from the meeting, and I don't see it happening any time soon," Crabb said.
On Aug. 30, Crabb said a resolution opposing Agenda 21, similar to a resolution unanimously adopted by the Morris County freeholders in June, would be scheduled for a discussion and possible vote.
Two days earlier, the Republican National Convention platform included a plank opposing Agenda 21, bringing what was previously seen as a fringe issue into the party's mainstream.
