If there is any one particular type of tax which has opened the door to abuse and oppression throughout the ages, that taxing power would be an unbridled direct tax levied upon the people. But don’t take my word for it, take note of what Representative Williams stated during a debate on Direct Taxes January 18th, 1797 (http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=llac&fileName=006/llac006.db&recNum=191):

"History, Mr. Williams said, informed them of the annihilation of nations by means of direct taxation. He referred gentlemen to the situation of the Roman Empire in its innocence, and asked them whether they had any direct taxes? No. Indirect taxes and taxes upon luxuries and spices from the Indies were their sources of revenue; but, as soon as they changed their system to direct taxation, it operated to their ruin; their children were sold as slaves, and the Empire fell from its splendor. Shall we then follow this system? He trusted not."

Unfortunately, America’s experiment with this evil tax has brought America to the brink of financial and political ruin; has encourage members of Congress to raise its revenue in a manner which intentionally generates class warfare and turns Americans against one another; has compelled every taxpayer to divulge their most personal and private financial matters to Congress; has placed a devastating financial burden upon the American people and business in its collection; has been openly used by Congress to manipulate business and industry in a manner which subjugates, shackles and undermines a free market system; and has even been used as a tool by those holding political power to reward friends, punish enemies, and silence their opponents’ political views.

So why is there no discussion among our presidential candidates to withdraw this evil taxing power from Congress’ hands? Has it not proven to be an obvious cause of our present miseries? And why is it that our “conservative” media personalities are derelict in expressing outrage over this odious taxing power that is used by folks in government to subvert and enslave America’s businesses, wage earners and investors? Why is it that the American People are seemingly incapable of identifying the evil nature of this immoral tax which has wrought misery throughout the centuries, and was thoughtfully sapped of its evil qualities by our founding fathers requiring direct taxes to be apportioned among the several States?

And finally, why is it that not one candidate running for Congress, nor those running to be our president [Romney or Obama], reflect upon the very intentions and wisdom for which our Founders adopted the rule of apportioning both representatives and direct taxes?
