Out of curiosity, why do you have the flag of Aydin as your profile picture?

The REBELLIOUS STRIPES

Out of curiosity, why do you have the flag of Aydin as your profile picture?

Aydin is a Turkish town... not sure what flag they fly... the star and crescent on Turkish red I Would presume?

My avatar is a version of the 9 stripe "Sons of Liberty" flag, circa 1767. The 13 stripe version was flown after the Boston Tea Party to show solidarity after the British outlawed the 9 stripe version.

The "concreteness" of history during this period is less than solid. But generally both the 9 stripe and 13 stripe versions are anti colonialism, anti tax, anti federalism, and pro tea tossin' local resistance; civil disobedience.

Paul Revere, Sam Adams, James Otis and even John Adams

Likely flew this flag.

If the little guy in the cartoon complaining about illegal surveillance picked up a "Sons of Liberty" flag and a can of silly string, the world may look more like this:

'though the little guy's use of tar and feathers may be more permanent and poignant.

"be an extremist with me one more time," he might say...
