For now, some dark-horse candidates are looking to use their convention appearances as a platform to raise their profile for consideration four years from now. Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley had a speech in prime time on Tuesday evening, and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, whom Democrats also suggest has potential interest in a 2016 bid, speaks Thursday evening (though before broadcast networks break into their coverage).
I'm a Georgia resident, so I don't know much about the guy's governing record in Montana. He's always struck me as one of the few states' rights (yes I know, states don't have rights, but . . .) democrats remaining in this country.
I'm not saying that we should stop what we're doing and work on the Democrat side, but it might be wise to 'cover the bases.'
I think that the DNC is going to toss up Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden, as the article suggests, as contenders for 2016. Gov. Brian Schweitzer is not Ron Paul, but he's a far cry from Clinton or Biden.
