An interesting tidbit I found from the article:


In current political discourse, it is common to think of the Democrats as the party of entitlements, but long-term trends seem to tell a somewhat different tale. From a purely statistical standpoint, the growth of entitlement spending over the past half-century has been distinctly greater under Republican administrations than Democratic ones. Between 1960 and 2010, the growth of entitlement spending was exponential, but in any given year, it was on the whole roughly 8% higher if the president happened to be a Republican rather than a Democrat.

No I didn't see that, but I'm sure that's easy to figure out. It wouldn't bother me so bad if the republicans weren't so hypocritical by preaching small govt while scheming to have bigger govt behind the scenes. If the (R) President had vetoed every increase in federal spending or entitlement programs and had the veto overridden that would be one thing. I would say at least he tried, but in this case the Republicans are as guilty as the Democrats in increasing the entitlement nations.

I agree. I just don't think the presidential comparison is enough info by itself.

Yes indeed. Gov't entitlements allow my sister to sit on her fat ass most of the day in her parents' house (rent free) while working 1 part time job...and spending most of the rest of the time watching TV, eating, webbernetting, and getting fat.

If getting rid of entitlements mean that i am racist and homophobic? THen i prousdly embrace myself as a Homophobic, Racist, Creationist and hater of the poor. There can we get rid of the entitlements.

Quite seriously , it may, be too late , to save the character of America as it was when I was a child . I think , we are getting down to just individuals at this point ....

Entitlements do not better mankind. They create a divide between the people that are being taken from and the people receiving them.

Excellent point- it is, afterall, Congress which writes the laws and spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. Democrats controlled the House from 1949 to 1993. Took it back in 2007. That covers a pretty long time. http://uspolitics.about.com/od/usgovernment/l/bl_party_division_2.htm
Republicans had the Senate in the early half of the 1980's and from 1995- 2005.
