"...The Establishmentarians don’t know what to make of this abrupt groundswell, and so they predictably lash out with smears designed to keep Ron Paul and his ideas/philosophy at the margins of the national discourse.

Thing is, it’s not working, this is taking on a life of its own, and it’s an incredible political adventure in the making. Sometimes I feel like I’m fighting with a modern William Wallace against the forces of tyranny. It’s exhilarating, and addictive (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/11/the-smearing-of.html)..."

I wish Andrew Sullivan would just give in and endorse Ron Paul. He clearly is fascinated by him and the grassroots movement in a positive way. But he's too much a major writer and in with the mainstream media.

I could smack Andrew Sullivan. He was on Medved yesterday, stumping his new book, and he did not mention Ron Paul. It was such a glaring omission that I thought that perhaps there was a pre-show agreement: Sullivan could plug his book, but only if he didn't mention Congressman Paul.

Then he wrote this: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200712/obama/2
Of the viable national candidates, only Obama and possibly McCain have the potential to bridge this widening partisan gulf

I feel like a lover has betrayed me.... then he wrote this! http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/11/ron-paul-respon.html

Jesse Benton writes NRO. Money quote:

Dr. Paul stands for freedom, peace, prosperity, and the protection of inalienable individual rights. He knows that liberty is the antidote for racism, anti-Semitism, and other small minded ideologies. Dr. Paul has focused all of his energy on winning the presidency so he can cut the size of government and protect the freedom of every American. Neither he nor his staff is going to waste time screening donors. If a handful of individuals with views anathema to Dr. Paul’s send in checks, then they have wasted their money. I cannot profess to understand the motivations of Don Black as neither Dr. Paul nor I know who he is, but a simple Google search shows that his $500 contribution has netted him at least 88 news hits, including Charen’s column. Perhaps a better explanation for his “contribution” is not support for Ron, but the attention he knew he would receive.

I guess he needs the money.

More on Sullivan's defection....

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/11/a-man-of-the-ye.html

Ron Paul makes GQ's list. Next year: Sexiest Neo-Nazi Alive!

and this: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/11/frum-bait.html

Ron Paul gets endorsed by a brothel-owner in Nevada. No word on whether he is a neo-Nazi.

and there are suddenly lots of posts that read a lot like this: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/11/republicans-and.html

Recently I've come across more than a few conservative Republicans who are open to voting for Obama ...........

I think Mr Sullivan has been purchased. Ron Paul hasn't changed one iota, but Sullivan has.

What a shame.

I think Sullivan was just making a joke because all the smear articles that Ron Paul has been getting include some "guilt by association" meme. Since Ron Paul has neo nazi's supporting him he must be a neo nazi.

Does anyone else notice that smart people suddenly go all stupid when the topic turns to Ron Paul? This simply is becoming too common to be an accident.

Tucker Carlson is not a journalist. He could endorse a candidate.
Sullivan is now a blogger, not a journalist. He could endorse.

They keep stepping up to the precipice, then turn Glen Beck on us. Joe Scarborough, same thing.

They will just not commit. While Hannity slobbers all over Rudy, and only has on other candidates because his man crush on Rudy was becoming embarrassing to his masters, even though they also support Rudy.

It's pretty clear that these guys are either worried about their jobs if they flat out support Ron Paul, or they're getting orders to cool it.

Maybe, but sarcasm doesn't always transfer too well in writing. Combined with his appearance on Medved (where he didn't mention Paul although the conversation was begging for it) and his comment about Paul "needing the money..." although coming on the heels of the 4.2 million dollar day....

I hope you're right. Maybe I am missing the sarcasm.
