I posted this in Grassroots for a reason.... It's not "off topic." (as mods moved it)

This is how you reach people. It does not get more grassroots than this, and it's certainly not "off topic." Really.

OK, I guess the lyrics are kind of political after looking them over in the video description, so I'll move it to General Politics, sorry about that. Doesn't belong in Ron Paul Grassroots Central though, that is reserved for stuff about Ron Paul or the campaign with a few rare exceptions.

Ok, but it belongs somewhere. Listen to the lyrics.... feel them.

Chuck D is a well respected intellectual, or at least a respected philosopher to some people. 30s-40s politically aware types. That video is an obvious Tea Party endorsement - and also - asking that celebs shouldn't throw out opinions without proper research. To hear Chuck D say some of the things he said in that vid are really epic.

When rap was political, meaningful, and philosophical, CHUCK-D and ICE-T were among the best.

Honestly. I thought Chuck D was done. I mean... Flava makes millions while Chuck disappeared. It seemed so wrong. Apparently, he's back. :)

He doesn't just say shit because it rhymes. I would love to see a resurgence of Chuck D, KRS1, etc. More recently... Mos Def

So is Chuck D still giving Obama the white glove treatment just because he's black like he did in 2008?

Here's a different member from Public Enemy, Professor Griff, with his segment from The Obama Deception.
"Imperialism and fascism need a facelift, and that facelift is going to have to be black."

I'll toss in a catchy Professor Griff song while I'm at it. "We're Like Pawns in a Game."

Apparently, you didn't watch the video or listen to what Chuck said NOW. If you can't bother to listen, you won't learn, either.

Thanks for posting the Griff video.

While DMC was his own rapping ass self, it was not a coincidence that he was wearing a "Rage Against the Machine" shirt that he kept popping in the video. And yeah, I know they're kinda socialist, but just getting people to see something is wrong is an important step.

Chuck said what he said last week. The top video is a new release, last few weeks. I dislike when I think my friends are wrong, but I welcome them back when they have new understandings or new discussion.

You obviously have some Public Enemy love, WesSeid. Watch and listen to that top video 5 times. Then come back and tell us how you like it. :)

I bothered to listen and even read the lyrics. http://www.publicenemy.com/index.php?page=page5&item=16&num=231

Other than "tea party beef," I don't know what big political things I'm missing. And I'm surprised you think he's endorsing the tea party since it wasn't that long ago he didn't like the "racist" Tea Party.

Maybe I'm just taking what I like from it, but it's clearly political. When have you ever seen DMC wear anything like that?

This is clearly political... and even their own published lyrics don't quite match the track.

NEVER HAVE SO MANY
BEEN SCREWED BY SO FEW
CALL TO SAVE Y'ALL
SO WHATCHO WANNA DO?
AT THE AGE I'M AT NOW IF I CAN'T TEACH
I SHOULDN'T EVEN OPEN MY MOUTH TO SPEAK
REAL TALK RAISING STRONG DOWN FROM THE WEAK
CHUCK D GOT TEA PARTY BEEF
WHY REPRESENT WHERE YOU CANT SLEEP?
40 ACHES JACKASS IS SIX FEET DEEP
LOST IN THE SAME SPACE Y'ALL CALL THE STREETS
I WALK REAL TALK ACROSS THESE BEATS

THIS AIN'T NEW
CAUSE Y'ALL AIN'T NEVER KNEW
NO TEARS TELL YOUR PEERS INFORM YOUR CREW
CAUSETRUTH IS TRUTH
NO MATTER WHAT I THINK
I TAKE OUT GARBAGE
WHEN IT TENDS TO STINK

Being 2012, it's surely not an Obama endorsement, either.

DMC, even....

BUT ALL THAT CRAP MEANS NOTHING TO ME
IF I CAN'T GIVE 'EM VISION AND SOMETHING TO SEE
IT'S MORE POWERFUL THAN YOUR POLITICS
ALL YOU STUPID POLITICIANS CAN SUCK A THUMB
ME AND CHUCK D WE DO NOT RUN
LIKE MY MAN SAID A CHANGE IS GONNA COME
SO DON'T BE STUPID DON'T BE SO DUMB
THERE ARE NO CUSS WORDS FOR Y'ALL TO BEEP
BUT I AM CURSING OUT THE LEADERS THAT ARE STILL ASLEEP

Sounds more like an OWS endorsement to me. "Many being screwed by so few". (The 99% screwed by the 1%). And having "beef" with someone is pretty universal in hip hop as having "problems" with them. The irony is that both the tea party and OWS have "beef" with the banksters but both have been misled by misleaders.

Yeah, the same thought occurred to me as well. But many of us here actually have more in common with marxists than the reigning establishment, since we're all willing to start by identifying the problems and we know shit from politicians like "I'm gonna create jobs" is meaningless bullshit.

My view is the establishment are the marxists. Well "marxist/leninists" to be precise. They pretend to be "conservative" while they expand the socialist control system.

Sounds like you are trying to make this fit whatever you want it to say. It is NOT an endorsement of anything tea party, in fact exactly the opposite.

I don't have much respect for either Chuck or Spike who widely proclaim themselves as independent minded revolutionaries. ROFL

Obama is the direct opposite of Malcolm and yet they still kiss his ass. Malcom stressed strong, INDEPENDENT communities detached from the schemes of the conniving white liberal establishment. Barack is a Fabian socialist elite who in all likelihood worked in the CIA, but don't tell Chuck or Spike that.

On both Chuck D's solo record and the to-be-determined PE album, tackling racism is to be expected—obviously, but probably not in the way you expect. The wildly racist undertones of the Tea Party movement, he says, "sounds like it's just old-cracker racism in a new term."

Instead, he says he wants to focus lots on anti-immigration and border policies affecting many minority groups. It's apparent even in the interviews he conducts and the raps he writes, where you'll find the colour "brown" in place of or alongside "black" people. He seems to think that we're now dealing with a Fear of a Brown Planet.

Chuck D co-wrote a Huffington Post article with wife Gaye Theresa Johnson. It issued "a call to action, urging fellow musicians, artists, athletes, performers, academics and production companies to refuse to work in Arizona until officials not only overturn this bill, but recognize the human rights of immigrants."

Recently, the border along the 49th parallel has also caught his ire. Reminding him that "it's just a big fucking game, man. Passports, visas and legalization—it's meant to keep the distribution of poor people from finding fresher terrain. It's not different from South Africa."

What has US customs done to earn such heated words? Nothing. It's Canada's fault, "not letting half of my crew in" for the group's Canadian tour. "The Canadian borders are strict for reasons that I'm clueless about. They've been tripping here and there," he says, guessing only that the stricter controls are due to tighter constraints since 9/11.

"It's only 'X' amount of people [in Canada]" he exclaims, before learning the real number, 34 million. "The land was snatched from the Indians and they want to stop people of colour from coming here? What's the square acreage of Canada?"

Being reminded that Canada is the second largest country sends him flying: "How can there be one country with land like that in the modern day world? And they still tell people they can't come here? Where does this come from? It sounds like some old-school white man!"

Like I said, Chuck has greatly disappointed me especially in his white glove treatment of Obama. He wrote some stuff on his personal site basically giving Obama a pass because he's black. That's why I posted a little Professor Griff, since, last I listened to some of his interviews, he seemed a lot more color-blind on Obama.

Really, I think Trump is an idiot attention whore, not worthy of diss tracks. I hate to bump this thread, but yeah, you guys are right. Chuck is not endorsing anything Tea Party related.
