This really could go in grassroots, but...

Here's the important part:

The post-9/11 era that dominated U.S. opinion and decision-making for the early part of this decade is effectively over, except in the minds of the approximately 25 percent of Americans that represent the Republican base.

This isn't a momentary change, either -- it's a more fundamental change in the way that Americans view the world.

I've been saying that the base is 20-30% and they cannot be converted. IF, as the author says, 75% of Americans are over the whole "post-911" meme, that's excellent news for the campaign. Forget the 25% and move on to the folks who are disgusted, but don't know what to do about it. These people are getting more and more disenchanted with the status quo with each passing day, and they're now in the low-hanging fruit category.
