Pressed for a sound-bite about Todd Akins's deranged medical opinions, Republican Senate candidate Michael Baumgartner, who is running on an anti-war platform, snapped off a pithy email: "Go f--- yourself," accompanied by a photo of a soldier killed in Afghanistan (http://reason.com/blog/2012/08/22/mitt-makes-a-mint-in-democratic-strongho#comments).

He shouldn't have apologized to the Statist hack presstitute.

Restoring Our Freedom

Thomas Jefferson said that the God who gave us life gave us liberty. The Constitution does not grant us those freedoms, which we are born with, but it is meant to restrain government from trampling them. There is no more important job for a U.S. Senator than ensuring those promises made in the Constitution are kept in the Congress.

Military and Veterans

President Abraham Lincoln implored us “to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan” and this is a commitment I take seriously after having worked alongside so many of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is time to end the wars and adopt a smarter foreign policy.

Michael "Go F--k Yourself" Baumgartner's Position on Afghanistan Probably Won't Get As Much Play as Todd Akin's on Abortion

Michael Baumgartner is a state senator running against the Democratic incumbent Sen. Maria Cantwell in Washington. Baumgartner is making some news for shooting a “vulgar” e-mail off to a reporter after a story hooked to rape comments made by Missouri candidate Todd Akins. With an attached photo, the full text read: "Josh, this is Pat Feeks, a Navy SEAL killed last week in Afghanistan. Take a good look and then go fuck yourself."
[...]

Democrats were quick to brand Baumgartner as a far-right extremist for signing the 2010 Spokane County Republican platform which calls for such things as withdrawing from the United Nations, eliminating the U.S. Department of Education, returning to the gold standard and repealing the Endangered Species Act.

The Republican is polling well behind Senator Cantwell. The article that spurred his news-making response was part of a “one question” series. Being more interested in a self-consistent attribute of a ”pro-life” stance than in asking a question like “what would you do about Afghanistan policy?” to a candidate whose strand of foreign policy politics might stray from bipartisan establishment orthodoxy, and who’s expressed a desire to call attention to an issue as important as the war in Afghanistan, one even the Defense Secretary is trying to push into the news cycle, suggests political interest in the culture wars remains much higher than on the issues that actually determine the course of the country.

Ron Paul’s continued fight for delegates and Gary Johnson’s campaign to get into the presidential debates notwithstanding, with less than a hundred days left in the election the window for the muddled decade-long war in Afghanistan to enter the forefront on the campaign trail continues to close.

SEATTLE, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Michael Baumgartner, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Washington, declined to apologize for telling a reporter to "go [expletive] yourself."

Baumgartner, a Washington state senator running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, apparently sent the vulgar invitation via e-mail to Publicola Editor Josh Feit after expressing his frustration that abortion was getting too much attention this election cycle and that the focus should be on the war in Afghanistan.

"Let me just say, Josh had it coming in this e-mail, and I don't apologize," Baumgartner told KIRO-TV, Seattle, Tuesday. "Look, it's a naughty word. It doesn't amount to a whole lot."

The e-mail, which Feit displayed on his blog, showed a photo of Baumgartner holding a gun with the words, "Josh, this is Pat Feeks, a Navy SEAL killed last week in Afghanistan. Take a good look and then go [expletive] yourself."

"It was a personal discussion. I'm not going to go into details about what was said, but the guy had it coming," Baumgartner said.

"The issue here is not whether a bad word was said or not. Maybe it angers people, maybe it doesn't. Trust me, the guy had it coming. The issue here is the ongoing war in Afghanistan and the complete lack of leadership of bringing that war to a close.'

Baumgartner's campaign said in a release that Publicola and may other news media "do not want to talk about why these men and women continue to be killed."

"They don't want to discuss Maria Cantwell's record supporting the war in Afghanistan or a smarter foreign policy that can save thousands of lives in the future," the campaign statement said

He got my vote, and now my future campaign contributions and efforts.

Oh, his staff (http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2012/08/22/mike_baumgartner_tells_publicola_s_josh_feit_to_fu ck_off_over_todd_akin_questions.html) apologized for him.

Mike Baumgartner, a U.S. Senate candidate hoping to unseat Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell this fall, told a local reporter to "fuck off" earlier his week. His only apparent regret about his outside-the-box PR strategy? Failing to stop his staff from later issuing an apology on his behalf.

I'm going to throw him a Jackson (and what kind of sick, central banksta joke was that anyhow?) He needs the cash, and the RNC is evidently not helping him.

Baumgartner has been struggling to gain traction in his campaign against Democratic U.S. Maria Cantwell. She won the primary earlier this month with 56 percent of the vote. Cantwell also has $2.1 million in cash ready to spend on the campaign, compared to $182,000 for Baumgartner (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/W/WA_SENATE_CANDIDATE_VULGARITY_WAOL-?SITE=OHLIM&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT).

ETA: Much to my surprise, the blaze warmongers didn't rip him a new one for being anti-war.

Finally, a politician has the veracity to speak how they truly feel. I commend him for his "pithy" comment.

One can understand his frustration considering how this has become a forgotten war.

I'm sure he'd have no problem telling Romney/Ryan to go fuck themselves when they babble on about how Obama is too weak on foreign policy.
