Police Shoot Dog After Failed Traffic Stop

http://www.wowt.com/news/headlines/Lincoln-Police-Shoot-Dog-After-Failed-Traffic-Stop-166884996.html

A Lincoln police officer shot a dog after an attempted traffic stop.

Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers attempted to a stop a truck on Vine Street. The driver of the truck would not stop.

Police later spotted the vehicle at a home in the 800 Block of North 44th Street. Officers contacted the vehicle's owner. The man said his son was the driver of the vehicle.

While police were on scene, the man was unable to keep his dogs under control. A black lab and a pit bull escaped from the home. The man says his lab was barking at officers. He says when the officers backed away his dogs advanced.

Police say an officer fired a shot, hitting the lab in the foot. The pit bull ran off. The man took the lab to an emergency animal hospital. Police weren't able to find the driver of the vehicle.

No word yet from LPD on what charges the driver may be facing

WTF?
Story makes no logical sense with much of it missing.

What happened between these two events?

The truck outran a police cruiser? The driver magically vanished from the seat?
How hard is it to follow a truck in NH?

Questionable story invites questions.
