WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is expected to speak publicly tonight for the first time since taking refuge at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Mr Assange, who has been holed up in the embassy since June, is set to give a statement at 2.00pm local time (11.00pm AEST).

It remains unclear if he will leave the building and, if he does, how he will do so without being arrested. British police are stationed outside the embassy, ready to arrest Mr Assange if he leaves the building.

Agreed... I hope the press conference is within the building, rather than outside.

Time in Australia is calculated using standard time, with three zones: Australian Western Standard Time (WST), Australian Central Standard Time (ACST), and Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). The three zones use three standard UTC offsets: western (UTC+08:00), central (UTC+09:30) and eastern (UTC+10:00).[1]

The Organisation of American States (OAS) has thrown itself into the diplomatic dispute between Ecuador and Britain by calling a meeting of foreign ministers to discuss it...

Americas to meet over WikiLeaks' Julian Assange after Ecuador asylum as he prepares to speak
http://www.news.com.au/top-stories/ecuador-to-announce-assange-asylum-britain-threat-to-raid-embassy/story-e6frfkp9-1226451503293
Foreign ministers from north and south American nations will convene at the OAS Washington headquarters on Friday (Aug 24) at its Washington headquarters after a vote by the organisation's council that was overwhelmingly in favour: 23 to three, with five abstentions.

Most representatives from the countries of the Americas and the Caribbean appeared delighted with the support for Ecuador's plea that the position of its embassy be looked at.

One gleeful member of a delegation that supported Ecuador's plea for the OAS to take up the case said as he left the council chamber: "The underdogs have won one at last."

The vote was taken by the OAS Permanent Council meeting in the organisation's 100-year-old Spanish colonial-style HQ – with its bronze gates, tropical trees, marbled staircases and galleries - near the White House.

What Assange, Wikileaks has released to the public, I consider valuable tabloid info... It's the TOP SECRET telexes/cables where you read the red meat of illegal/criminal activities in one's government or the individuals in power.

It's the Swedish government and Interpol who are the fraudsters and hypocrites. Swedish officials can question Assange anytime via phone/Skype/YahooIM or a gazillion other methods remotely... Just like Slick Willy Clinton's oral escapades dialog via remote video tape to Congress/prosecutors/et al.

It's a fuckin embarrassment of the double standards and lies of the US, UK, & it's Scandinavian blonde bitch, Sweden.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2012/aug/19/julian-assange-statement-ecuadorean-embassy-live

Wearing a crisp blue shirt and a red tie, Julian Assange has appeared on the balcony.

"I am here today because I cannot be there with you today," he says in a speech which is directed as much to the assembled crowds of supporters below as anyone else.

"But thank you for your resolve, for your generosity of spirit."

"On Wednesday night after a threat was made on this embassy and police descended on this embassy, you came out to watch over it."

Assange said that he could hear police "storming" up through the internal fire escapes of the embassy

He adds: "If the UK did not throw away the terms of the Vienna convention it was because the world was watching and the world was watching because you were watching."
Assange thanks Ecuador, its president and names various other Latin American states that have backed it in recent days.

He also addresses the US people and its government, saying to President Obama that the United States must stop its "witchhunt" against wikileaks.

"There must be no more foolish talk about prosecuting any media organisation, be it Wikileaks or the New York Times."

"The US war on whistleblowers must end"
Assange calls for the release of Bradley Manning, the alleged WikiLeaks source, describing him as one of the world's foremost political prisoners.

He goes on to refer to the jailing in Russia of members the feminist punk band, Pussy Riot.

"There is unity in the oppression. There must be absolute unity and determination in the response," adds Assange.
That seems to be it for now. Assange has gone back inside but the window leading to the balcony remains open.

Why are neocons so confused about this man's political leanings? They cry about how Obama or holder supports him. The sheer ignorance of people commenting. Hell, i'm sure Obama would like to send a drone his way and wouldnt bat an eye.

Assange has stated before that if anything he is an American style libertarian, supports free market capitalism. Neocon clowns want to make him into some sort of anti American leftist.
