View Full Version : Happening RIGHT NOW - Bing News search blocking searches for "Ron Paul"

BeingJohnGalt

Bing News search is currently completely blocking out all searches for "Ron Paul", as long as the words are together and alone. It is 9:am Central in Minnesota and I have dumped all my internet cache and took many screenshots with time-stamp, but it is still occuring. I am a computer support technician, so me and my coworkers can confirm.

I have cross-referenced by attemps to look up "Ron White", "Paul Ryan", "Romney", and "Goats and Cheese", all garnishing hits.

Please try it yourself and get the word out! Call any media who will listen and any sources that can shine light on this.

Antony Reed

Simple solution is to not use any search engine that does such things. When enough people wake up and do that, the engine will either die or change.

BeingJohnGalt

I just found it will search if you type: Paul Ron ...just not: Ron Paul

Easy for the already awake, Dr.3D, but how are the rest supposed to wake up if they don't know what is being deliberately hidden from them? We need to make a stink that can be heard.

fwiw: Thats the web search, not news search. News search works fine for rand paul.

It is a very specific search-block, holding back all searches which only contain Ron Paul, or "Ron Paul", though not case-sensitive.

Yeah, it seems to be a localized problem. I tried it from 3 different networks. I get results from 2 of them, but not 1 of them. Strange bug, probably not a conspiracy.

12,400 results

Edit: Now I try it and get: 0 results
Edit II: tried again and got: 14,500 results

Interesting how it changes all the time.

Edit III: now it's 11,300 results

He posted a picture of both searches. One from the Web heading and the other from the News heading. It's something wrong on your end

It isn't something wrong on his end. It's a problem with bing. Probably just a bad cache or server, which explains why it comes and goes.

Didn't work for me once... I tried a few more times and got different results nearly every time.

It's not just the number of results, but the quality of the results as well. When I do the search, look at what I get for the #2 result:

"Ron Paul backers need to face reality and give up the fight"

A while back I was looking for pictures ofthe UCLA Ron Paul rally. Still to this day, the results compared with Google are simply astounding.

Still to this day, compare the results:
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Ron+Paul+10%2c000+people+UCLA+tennis+cent er&FORM=BIFD
Note the single picture result and the caption has nothing to do with the event.

Now Google:
https://www.google.com/search?q=Ron+Paul+10,000+people+UCLA+tennis+center&hl=en&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS473US473&prmd=imvnso&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=x7-FT9OxI6qciAKPtrD1BA&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1152&bih=720#q=Ron+Paul+10,000+people+UCLA+tennis+cente r&hl=en&sa=X&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS473US473&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=1&biw=1047&bih=671

I hope this Bing thing just dies, like Microsoft. BTW at the last financial qtr, MSFT declared it's first loss ever.

Thank you all for jumping on this. The search was down for at least an hour, though if you had a saved search, those worked ok. This was a diverted version of the seach string, and was not the usual URL:

I have this search as my homepage and it worked the whole time, until refreshed, which diverted it to another address:
http://www.bing.com/news/search?q=%22ron+paul%22&p1=%5bNewsVertical+SortByDate%3d%221%22%5d&FORM=YGNR

Thanks again all!

Why would you hope Bing to die? Would Ron Paul hope Bing to die? That would be less competition and Google would to continue to control the monopoly power. I revolted against Google by starting to use Bing for more than a year now. If you haven't already read so, Google is changing their algorithm to allow automatic take down of results from filed complains. God knows what kind of freedom of speech havoc it will cause moving forward.

And just so you know, MSFT is one of the few tech companies that donated to the Ron Paul campaign.

As for the search results on bing, I've got over 185 million returns for "ron paul".

DuckDuckGo which i know is popular with some, uses the Bing backend for much of its search engine.

With a single post here on RPF, you sound like quite a Bing fan boy. "I've got over 185 million returns for "ron paul""
That's not what everyone else is getting. Have you tried the image search I suggested earlier in the thread?

Oh also, this here is pretty funny. Is the skepchick your girlfriend? This talk occurred at Google:

Zip up to 1:25:45 for the funny bit. The whole video is great too, but not relevant to this discussion.

LOL this isn't techblog, don't get all work up about it. You're clearly avoiding my respond. I'm just saying more competitors will be better for consumer, what Ron Paul has been preaching about. And I would've post a picture of it, but since the board require 3 posts minimum before allowing me to post images or links, I didn't bother to. But I did take a screen shot of it earlier here

+ rep for using startpage.com

Also here is some basic information about it for anyone else who wants to ungooglefy their noggin. Unlike Google, startpage doesn't give you results based upon cached history, It just gives the results for relevant searches. https://startpage.com/eng/protect-privacy.html (https://startpage.com/eng/protect-privacy.html)

Katherine Albrecht (http://www.katherinealbrecht.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=81&Itemid=79)who is a liberty activist is the vice chair for the company as well. Katherine is a trooper, btw, and we need more folks like her who actually do instead of talk about doing.

Startpage returns the same results as Google...

And from the Daily Oklahoman besides. It isn't the most popular website in this state, much less popular enough worldwide to deserve such a high ranking.

Oh, and I use ixquick.
