I think indefinite detention is more like kidnapping, but not necessarily holding hostage. they don't even necessarily tell family they have them.

Excellent! Was this yours?

I just found this on Reddit with over 600 votes. The #1 comment just wanted to see a change from "Mafia Tribute" to "Extortion".

Well done!

That would make a good t-shirt. I agree with V3n, and would change "Mafia Tribute" to "Extortion".

These are funny. State lotteries are hilarious. Gambling is horrid unless you buy state scratch its or power ball tickets...then it does good things. Get caught doing the same thing in a back alley with cash and dice then you will be going to jail.

Numbers and racketeering, unless you're government.

Frankly the states hide behind that it "funds education"... well if that's the case, if you win the long shot, then why isn't your money tax free? Anyhoo let's look at that Mega Millions huge $640 million jackpot...

http://blogs-images.forbes.com/janetnovack/files/2012/03/Mega_Millions_logo.png

let’s assume you are sole winner, taking your money in a lump sum this calendar year. In that case, you’ll get only $462 million. (Yep, that higher $640 million figure is only if you’re ready to take your money payment over 26 years.)
Of the 42 states (plus the District of Columbia) participating in Mega Millions, five—New Hampshire, Tennessee, Texas, South Dakota and Washington —don’t have a state income tax on this winning. Should a resident of one of those states be the sole winner, he or she will have to fork over 35% to Uncle Sam —or $161.7 million. (That 35% is the top rate on ordinary income, such as wages, and gambling winnings are taxed as ordinary income.

Note: Some readers are confused by the fact that Mega Millions only withholds 25% federal tax. But I’m sorry to report that you still owe tax at the 35% rate.)

But say a New York City resident wins, he or she will get hit with the highest combined state and local tax in the nation— 8.82% will go to the state (http://www.forbes.com/sites/janetnovack/2011/12/07/new-york-decides-it-takes-2-million-to-be-rich-for-tax-rates-that-is/) and another 3.87% to the city. State and local taxes are deductible from federal taxable income, which reduces the federal bite a bit. So the total federal/state/local tax bill for a New York City resident will come to about $199.5 million. ( BTW: If your winning ticket is purchased in NYC, you are mandated to pay their city taxes, even if you're a resident of another state
http://www.forbes.com/sites/janetnovack/2012/03/30/how-much-tax-will-you-owe-on-540-million-jackpot/

From $640 Million winnings, you're handed ~$200 million. or a 69% total taxing rate.

Better Odds in LAS VEGAS

PS: on that chart: "INDEFINITE DETENTION" is Felony Kidnapping... just ask OJ.

Its all based on the notion that the state knows how to spend your money better than you do. God forbid someone gambles privately and uses their earnings to put food on the table or become functionally independent. That money needs to fund union rubber rooms, early retirements, and bloated pensions.

lol that's a great picture i pretty much equate everything on that list to people when i talk about philosophy and politics and stuff lol.... yes the government is allowed to steal our money called taxation but if i stole from someone on the streets i'd get locked up.... they are allowed to start wars and obey commands to kill people if a regular joe on the street did it they'd get the chair.
