Republican congressional candidate Thomas Massie continues to outpace his Democratic opponent Bill Adkins in fundraising, according to reports filed in July with the Federal Election Commission.

Massie raised $247,493 from May 3 through June 30 compared to $21,783 from Adkins, the FEC reports.

The political action committee of Libertarian-minded donors Charles and David Koch, Koch Industries Inc., donated $5,000 to Massie’s campaign at the end of June.
Another $109,000 came from people around the country donating through of the Club For Growth PAC, which touts reduced taxes and smaller government.

Massie has raised a total of $475,000 for this election, the FEC reports, while Adkins has raised $35,289. Massie has also loaned his campaign $105,000 of his own money, bringing his total campaign receipts to more than $580,000. While Massie enjoys a comfortable lead, his campaign will still aggressively seek funds to buy ads in the expensive Cincinnati media market, said Phil Moffett, Massie’s campaign manager. Massie’s campaign has spent $487,000 so far, including an expensive primary against seven other Republican candidates. The FEC reports show Massie’s campaign had $96,000 on hand at the beginning of July.

Massie’s general election ads, however, will run closer to the November election, Moffett said. Since the May 22 primary, Massie has raked in $49,862. Adkins has raised $9,323.

“Thomas has great support across the district, and will run and aggressive campaign,” Moffett said. “The Ohio media market is part of this. That’s a swing state in the presidential race, and that media market is expensive. There’s artificial inflation that’s going on.”

Adkins’ fundraising will step up in September, said Jim Cole, spokesman for Adkins’ campaign. He’s already produced one television ad critical of Massie that aired on Insight cable. Adkins will have fundraisers next month including one with Attorney General Jack Conway, Cole said.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers donated $10,000 to Adkins’ campaign. Cole expects more union money will come in closer to the election.

“They’re one of the leaders among organized labor,” Cole said. “I expect the rest of the labor to follow. Some wheels grind slowly. Most of that is likely to hit in September.”

It is going to be another Massiecre in the general. A Keyensian, Obama apologist like Adkins has no chance in this district. This district is probably one of the most reliably conservative districts in the country.
