Vante CFO Adam Smith fired for rude behavior at Chick-fil-A

Perhaps lost in the ongoing Chick-fil-A Inc. vs. gay rights movement battle is an important lesson -- what you say and do in the debate could get you fired.

Tuscon, Ariz.-based Vante Inc., a medical manufacturer, canned Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Adam Smith on Thursday after he posted on YouTube a video of himself going through a Chick-fil-A drive-thru and goading a Chick-fil-A employee as she keeps her cool. Click here to see the video.

The video went viral and executives at Vante reacted quickly, firing Smith and releasing a statement:

“Vante regrets the unfortunate events that transpired yesterday in Tucson between our former CFO/Treasurer Adam Smith and an employee at Chick-fil-A. Effective immediately, Mr. Smith is no longer an employee of our company.

“The actions of Mr. Smith do not reflect our corporate values in any manner. Vante is an equal opportunity company with a diverse workforce, which holds diverse opinions. We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions, however, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others.

“We hope that the general population does not hold Mr. Smith’s actions against Vante and its employees.”

Hater shouldn't have hated! ;)

I saw this as a reply video:

Another case of a high level executive thinking he can do whatever he wants and treat people like shit. This time it backfired. Usually they get away with treating people like shit. I hear Chik-Fil-A is hiring though...

It's probably pretty important for your girlfriend to know that. Me, not so much.

He said his company had a ton of emails about what he did. I wonder how they knew where he worked.

Wow. Vante knows how to make sure they don't get caught up in crazy b.s.

I'd fire him too.

My company policy would be something like "Don't make an ass out of yourself in public to the point that it threatens the employment of everyone who works here."

As for the fil-a owner... he makes his own policy.

He apparently posted it on his youtube channel where he might have said something about employment.

It also went viral, so someone probably recognized him and spread the word.

Uh, yeah. Unless he put his name somewhere or listed his company, people sure found out fast who he was and where he worked.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks, tangent.

He most definitely had risen to his level of incompetence, because that was a dumber-than-dirt move.

Is it bad that I laughed at his apology video?

"I felt so proud to be protesting Chick-Fil-A"

Probably is. I am bi but i love my girlfriend more than anything, we will get married soon.

That sounds like a personal issue man.

Yep, the two things I'll fire somebody over is incompetence and and abusing other people. And theft. There are three things I'll fire somebody over .....

Huh? What I meant by that was that there was no need for him to say he was bi. Nobody asked and it's a personal issue so why would that be the first thing you type?

So he was sorry as soon as he spoke the words....yet he still posted the YouTube video later. Hmmmmmm....everybody has a guilty conscience.. it's not even worth mentioning. by the same standard, all murderers should be forgiven, because it's human to feel the slightest sympathy, no matter how small. even terrorists are bound to have some sympathy when they pull the trigger, although largely overshadowed by hatred and religious zeal.. that's why the ultimate action counts and should be the only final verdict, and why i hate some women always making excuses for their foul-ups. that last line is off topic.

He said his company had a ton of emails about what he did. I wonder how they knew where he worked.

A lot of people in the area probably knew him by name or recognized his face. He's a pretty important person in that company, so I would think it wasn't that hard for people to find out who he was since a lot of people probably already knew him and shared the video with their friends.

He must not have been doing a good enough job. You don't fire good workers for doing something like that imo.

My guess is that he was not a virgin when it comes to being an asshole. It probably took two seconds for some of his abused underlings to rat him out on the internet.

The interesting thing to me is to see how a person can be SO totally caught up in how "correct" they are that they don't even recognize a living human being standing in front of them. That is why he could treat that innocent gal that way - to him she was just a cardboard cutout to project his opinons upon because his opinions are THAT important. The danger of taking yourself too seriously.
