Just confirmed this with an Amazon customer care rep.

Starting Sept. 1st 2012, Amazon will be charging sales tax on any order over 100$

CA needs that money! Not to pay off its 10s of billions in debt, but to pay for its 60+ billion high speed rail system that was recently approved.

Prioritizes people.

Well, at least it's for orders over $100. Time to break up those orders into multiple small purchases!

Amazon caved in on the sales tax. They are as much to blame and caving in on socialism as the greedy state of CA.

In fact the they are the biggest pushers and lobbyist, right now, trying to push through a national internet sales tax bill in Congress.

Lets put this change in perspective. The only reason they support the Marketplace Fairness Act was because some states were gouging them and others were getting ready to do the same. It's not they they wanted to add the tax, it's that Walmart has more pull and spent a lot more money so they knew they were fighting a loosing battle. Now they have had to spend money trying to make the inevitable taxes even across the states. Who still wins in all of this?.....take a guess.

When I sell things online I include a 28% tax for any orders from DC. (not that I sell online very often)
